If you are developers or just curious to try it, you will like to know that Sony has announced that it is now possible to test Android N in its Developer Preview version on the Sony Xperia Z3. The Japanese company is working with Google to get the Android N developer version installed on some Xperia Z3s, thus being able to test the new features of the next mobile operating system from Mountain View.
The next version of Google's operating system will be called Android N and will correspond to version 7 of the system most used in smartphones in the world. This new version is expected to include quite significant improvements, both for users and developers. For example, Android N will include the Multi Window feature. It is a new multitasking system that allows users to view two applications at the same time, being able to even adapt the size of the window according to the device on which the application is running. Another interesting feature will be the ability to respond to a notification directly on the notification screen, without having to open the application in question. Developers will also have the ability to use new features to try to optimize battery usage in their applications.
Sony has announced that there are two variants of the Sony Xperia Z3 in which Android N Developer Preview can be installed. These are the D6603 and D6653 models. The process to install the new version of Google's operating system is not complicated. We will have to connect the compatible Sony Xperia Z3 to a computer using the USB cable. When connecting it, the Xperia Companion application will automatically open. We must make sure that the version of Xperia Companion we have installed is 1.1.24 or higher. If we don't have the latest version, we can download it here.
Once we have the latest version of the Xperia Companion program, we will have to hold down the ALT key on the computer and click on Software Repair on the home screen. Next we will follow the wizard that appears. Within the necessary steps the application will ask us to disconnect and turn off the smartphone. Then we will have to reconnect it while we hold down the volume down key. Doing so will begin the installation of the new system. If at any time we want to return to the factory settings, we will have to reconnect the device to the computer and run Xperia Companion. Once executed we will follow the steps of Software Repair again.
If you are developers and want to collaborate with Google by transmitting the errors or bugs you find, you can do so through the Android N incident tracking system. The company has also made an official group available to users on the Google Plus social network. It's worth noting that, as the name implies, this version of Android N is a development version for developers to test their applications, so it can be quite unstable.
