Mobile telephony increases in Spain by 28% with the sale of smartphones

2025
Anonim

The sale of smartphones has boosted the mobile telephony market in Spain. A report reveals an increase of 28% in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009. Of 5.17 million phones distributed, 1.5 million were smart devices. A 29% of the total, when a year ago the percentage was of the 18%.

Nokia is the leader in our country. The Finnish company's market share now reaches 66% after a 154% rise. It is followed by Samsung and LG, although the growth of Apple and RIM is noteworthy. The study has been carried out by the consultancy IDC, which has wanted to highlight the " significant " recovery in the sector.

While it is true that the figures represent a drop of 27% compared to the last quarter of 2009, it has been recalled that the first months of the year are "traditionally marked by the reduction of inventory in the Christmas period". This has been pointed out by Francisco Jerónimo, director of research at IDC. In total terms, the commercialization of smartphones has grown by 111%. With 3.67 million models distributed, the market for “normal” mobiles has also experienced a 10% rise. Anyway, Jerome advises prudencesince “despite a clear recovery in demand, we cannot forget that the first quarter of 2009 was the worst in the history of telecommunications”.

Among smartphones, Apple has a share of 9%, while a year ago it was 6%. That is, it has grown by 209%. RIM, responsible for BlackBerry terminals, also has a notable increase of 106% and currently enjoys a 14% share. Back to the total figures, the brand that has grown the most is LG with 89% and is placed, with an 11% share, in third place, behind Samsung with 25% and Nokia, with 46%. The bad news is for Sony Ericsson, which remains in fourth place with a 33% drop in sales. One of the conclusions drawn from the report by IDC is that in Spain, users who purchase mid-range mobiles but with some advanced features predominate. For example Internet browsing, direct access to social networks like Facebook or Twitter, touch technology, and so on.
