Over the past few months we've gotten used to seeing very, very strange terminal patents. With the arrival of flexible mobiles and triple or quadruple cameras, many manufacturers are opting to patent their most 'innovative' and original designs for future mobiles. Sometimes these patents are released on the market in the form of a mobile phone, while in most cases they are filed and registered, but they do not come to light. Xiaomi patents many mobile models, but this is the strangest I have seen in a long time.
The patent reveals a mobile with a flexible screen. You may be wondering if some diagrams of a mobile with a folding screen have something strange. And no, it is not uncommon to see this technology, mainly because there are already flexible mobiles on the market (Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X are the best known). The crazy thing about this design is its camera: a retractable camera with five lenses that peeks out from the top frame to take pictures. This method would solve one of the biggest unknowns in folding terminals that are all screen: where to place the camera module.
In this case, Xiaomi seems to have it clear . As the panel would fold outward, making the screen cover the back and front of the device, adding a sliding camera (five in this case) is not such a bad idea. This would allow us to take pictures and selfies with the same camera, just by rotating the device. And since it has a screen all over the body, we could always see what we want to photograph.
A Mi Mix Alpha with flexible screen
The design is very reminiscent of the Mi Mix Alpha, one of the most interesting, but at the same time, strangest mobiles that the Chinese company has announced. This has a screen that is incorporated in the back and the front. But it is not foldable, so we cannot unfold it to use the device as if it were a tablet. In this case the design would be similar: a panel that covers the entire body, but that can be folded. the Mi Mix Alpha has a band on one of the sides of the screen, since it is necessary to include the camera modules.
We do not know if this Xiaomi patent will come to light one day, but there is no doubt that it is a very interesting device.
