The Japanese brand Torque has decided to launch a new smartphone on the European market that comes with the off - road label. We are talking about the Kyocera Torque, a mobile that is presented with a robust design that is theoretically resistant to water, dust, shock and extreme temperatures. The Kyocera Torque hides under its appearance a mid-range mobile with the Android operating system installed as standard. Its availability, at the moment, has only been confirmed for Germany and France, and there is no mention regarding its starting price.
The Kyocera Torque incorporates a screen of 4.5 inches to reach a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. Measures of this terminal are set to the 136 x 68 x 13.5 mm, weighing 182 grams. The Kyocera Torque is available in a single housing color: black, which also includes some red additions (on one side of the terminal, for example).
The design of this smartphone is covered by a housing that guarantees IPX5 / IPX8 certificates, which translates into water resistance up to a depth of 1.5 meters for a maximum of 30 minutes. In addition, the Kyocera Torque is also resistant to the powder, to fall (to 1.22 meters at an angle of 26 degrees), to vibrations, to moisture, to extreme temperatures (-30 to 60 degrees temperature, depending on whether the mobile is on or not) and at low pressure.
Beneath its bulky casing, the Kyocera Torque houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (model MSM8928) quad-core processor that achieves a clock speed of 1.4 GHz. The capacity of the RAM memory is 1 GigaByte, while the internal storage space is set at a capacity of 4 GigaBytes. The factory installed operating system corresponds to Android in Android version 4.4.2 KitKat.
The main chamber of the Kyocera Torque incorporates a sensor eight megapixels with LED flash, while the front camera has a sensor two megapixels. The phone card slot is of the Nano-SIM type, and the battery that gives life to all these features offers a capacity of 3,100 mAh. According to Kyocera, this capacity translates into an autonomy of between 17 and 27 hours in conversation and between 810 and 1,000 hours in standby.
Kyocera has not released any further data regarding the availability of the Kyocera Torque on the market, and at the moment it is only confirmed that its launch will occur in Germany and France. We will have to wait until the next Mobile World Congress 2015, which takes place during the first days of March, to know the starting price and the exact countries in which this smartphone with off-road device capabilities will be available.
