The iPhone 5 made its appearance yesterday, Wednesday, September 12. The device has already been completely radiographed by rumors and leaks, and hardly any point was left to touch between the characteristics that were known with dropper during the preceding weeks.
It is the new thoroughbred from Apple, with which it will compete against the Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Sony Xperia T, Nokia Lumia 920 and Samsung Galaxy Nexus. To do this, it uses a very attractive profile, renewing its screen, presenting a slimmer and lighter design and opting for more power in its processor. However, some points of its configuration have generated controversy due to the disappointment that they have produced in part of its parish. Let's look at five of them.
Lightning port
The new proprietary take on the iPhone 5 "" which will very presumably be part of the features of the also rumored iPad Mini "" is now faster and smaller. This, which should be understood as something positive, has turned out to be a pitcher of cold water. For starters, it's not compatible with the vast family of accessories and dedicated speakers that have served the previous five generations of apple phones.
In addition, to be able to use some of these, you would have to get an adapter that costs 30 euros. And if we resort to this orthopedic dressing, in many cases the phone, which is taller, would not be completely stable or fit well in the base designed for dock. Good business, no doubt.
LTE for everyone?
Apple adds to its family of phones fourth-generation LTE connectivity ”” Long Term Evolution ””. Theoretically, this standard manages to develop data download rates of up to 100 Mbps. Theoretically, we say. And not only because this is at the expense of the support of the regional network where the device operates, but also of the compatibility itself.
And it is that the iPhone 5 can only connect to LTE networks in Europe on German or British soil, where the 1,800 MHz frequency band that the phone recognizes is enabled. In practice, in Spain you will not be able to use the 4G network even now, which is not open to users, nor in the future, because it does not work on the band recognized by the Apple mobile.
No news from the NFC
Perhaps the most notable missing point of the iPhone 5 configuration based on what has been described through rumors and leaks has been that of the NFC. The proximity communication chip is almost a compulsory subject among the high-end mobiles of the rest of the competition. But Apple has tiptoed over this chapter, and seems not to be interested in integrating this technology just yet. With this, the opportunity to use this standard with which to share data and turn the phone into a gateway for electronic payments is lost.
An outdated format
It was assumed that the iPhone 5 would have a four-inch screen. However, while there was little doubt about it, this does not take away the fact that Apple is still stubborn not to catch up with large-format panels, the trend among high-end devices.
Those from Cupertino do not get rid of the thumb argument "" make the entire panel accessible to control with the thumb if we hold the device with one hand "", and for that reason they have only given their arm to twist by expanding the dimensions of the iPhone screen 5 throughout. This has led to the fact that, for a time, applications designed for all previous generations of the phone now appear with two black bands, in order not to distort the image, something that is already familiar to iPad users who are have made with apps designed for the iPhone.
Autonomy: good, but...
According to official Apple data, the iPhone 5 battery guarantees the same performance as its predecessor. In theoretical terms, this means just under ten days of rest and about eight hours of conversation. It is not bad at all, although if we compare it with what its direct competition presents, those from Cupertino may come to stay below the bar. Consider, for example, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and its more than ten hours in use "" more than twelve, according to official indexes.
With the Motorola Razr MAXX you cannot even fight, and the same is true if we compare with the Samsung Galaxy Note or Note 2. However, at this point we must break a spear in favor of the iPhone 5, which although it does not measure up in autonomy, at least it presumes in return of a very remarkable lightness.
