The iPad is already in Spain. Once the initial fuss is over, now it's time to look at numbers and see how sales are working. As the data comes in, Apple fans and critics are praising or criticizing the invention. There are even those who dare to consider it one of the worst inventions of recent times. Of course, it is not exactly technology experts who affirm it, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU). But since there has to be everything in this world, we wanted to look at a curious comparison made by this Spanish association. And they have dealt with examining the characteristics of the pileup and compare it with one of his strongest rivals. We refer to the Kindle, the e-book reader that has captivated half the world and promises to be one of the best in the sector. The result? The Kindle is much better than the iPad. Let's see the reasons the OCU offers.
The function of the iPad has been blurred from the beginning. Will it be an e-book reader ? A mini laptop? A media player ? A photo viewer? Things are not very clear, so the Organization of Consumers and Users has decided to shed some light on the matter. According to them, the iPad is a highly tempting device, mostly because of its looks and that “˜Apple” ™ touch, capable of seducing even the least motivated buyer. Although it is very easy for the eyes to enter, the iPad is still a very expensive tabletwhich could cost us between 480 and 780 euros, in its most expensive modality.
The OCU has also pointed out its size (9.7 inches) as defects since Apple has sold this tablet as a device that we can use with one hand. We find it difficult to imagine that we can travel comfortably on the subway, holding a nearly 10-inch hulk. The iPad from Apple is not multitasking and to fill applications, we must necessarily pass through the iTunes store and pay a few cents for every little program that we happen to use.
It has no camera, no HDMI connector or USB inputs to connect it to the computer, add files or memory. But there are also good things: the device is multi-touch and the battery is quite durable. So what is the iPad and what can it do for us? If its main task is to become a new medium for electronic books, things are not so clear.
To begin with, we are not facing an electronic ink device, something that already throws us back when it comes to facing a long and comfortable reading, something that the guys at Amazon have taken into account. Another detail has to do with the weight (the Kindle weighs half) and with the inches (the new Kindle DX already reaches ten). According to examinations conducted by the OCU, the Amazon reader is much more valid when it comes to using it for its primary purpose.
In any case, Apple scores a point when we talk about multimedia playback, Internet browsing and multitouch technology. The price is another story and the availability of content, an economic handicap to take into account. Even so, despite the crisis, it seems that this is what matters the least to Apple fans, who have rushed to buy the latest invention of their beloved company.
