This Friday, the iPad 2 goes on sale in our country. The new edition of the Apple tablet has come with a little friend, the Smart Cover, a kind of magnetic protection screen that also becomes a support to put the device in various positions. This accessory is as striking as it is necessary for those who want to be up to date, although its price (in the United States it is 40 dollars, about 28 euros to change, but it is more than likely that it will arrive without currency exchange) can repel more than a client.
However, in this area it is already known: imitation is the order of the day. The first we have known is called PixelSkin HD. It is manufactured by the company Speck, and they have committed the terrible blunder of launching a clone that reproduces the appearance of the original Smart Cover, although eliminating the most attractive of that accessory (the behavior with magnets) and on top of it throwing it more expensive (50 dollars, or 35.4 euros, at the current exchange rate).
We say that this PixelSkin HD is not magnetized, as it is with the original. The magnetic system of the Smart Cover serves, on the one hand, to stick the "cover" on the side of the iPad 2 and, on the other, to make the surface tiles can interact with the tablet (either protecting and blocking the screen, or folding to make the iPad 2 hold in a couple of positions). The PixelSkin HD only allows the latter, to be used to use the device with a slight inclination or to stand it horizontally.
Lacking magnets, the PixelSkin HD attaches to the iPad 2 through a sleeve that covers the entire back of the tablet. Then, the tessellated surface (the one that in the original Smart Cover allows to fold on itself) is glued to the iPad screen by means of a micro-suction that, imitating the original magnetism, makes the case seem to have been hermetically closed.. Does this PixelSkin HD seem like a real alternative to the Smart Cover ?
