Surprise from Cupertino. When we are a week after it launches the new Apple tablet in our country, from several points we learned that the main camera of the iPad 2 has a maximum resolution of 0.7 megapixels photographs do. We refer to the sensor located on the back of the device, whose main utility is to capture video in HD quality (with a maximum resolution of 720p), and which, however, does not have enough power to take photographs at one megapixel.
We have learned about it through the promotional video that Gustavo Entrala, from the 101 agency, has made for FNAC, in which he reviews some of the specifications of the tablet, which will arrive in Spain in just 7 days. In general, almost all the data was known from the presentation of the device. However, when discussing the camera options, it stands out that the maximum photo quality is 0.7 megapixels.
You are not the only user who points it out. From Macstories also certify that the main camera of the iPad 2 can not capture a higher quality of 0.7 megapixels, and provide some examples of how they see the pictures that are made with the rear sensor of the tablet.
The light and color results are very good, but by zooming it is possible to appreciate that the definition is quite poor, especially if we get an idea of what we can expect from other competing tablets (such as the Samusng Galaxy Tab 10.1, and eight megapixels, or the Motorola Xoom, with a high quality five megapixel).
However, the data of 0.7 megapixels for the main sensor is not official. When we asked Apple about this point in the specifications, they reminded us that "the iPad is not a camera", and that the characteristics that are reflected in the official technical sheet are "those related to the experience provided by this new product category ”.
