Apple will be the leader in the tablet market for the next four years. We are not saying it, but rather an analysis by Gartner, which once again raises the crystal ball and anticipates figures that seek to measure the temperature of the sector in sales of the main manufacturers.
According to the consultancy's estimates, those in Cupertino will close this year tripling their iPad sales compared to last year. And it is that although in 2010, with a market still to be defined and with the majority of the confused clients and wondering what was that of a tablet, almost fifteen million iPads were sold, this year the bitten apple would place almost 48 million devices in the hands of as many users.
This figure would represent almost 69 percent of the global share of the tablet market, where the main competitor would be, of course, the segment of products developed under the umbrella of Google and its Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Together, the tablets that use this platform will account for almost 20 percent of the pie, with sales that would touch the fourteen million devices before the end of the year.
In total, and counting other ecosystems (HP WebOS, BlackBerry QNX, MeeGo …), the park of tablets in 2011 would be made up of practically 70 million terminals.
In this sense, and following the progression estimated by Gartner analysts, the penetration of this segment among consumers would grow to quadruple the market in 2015. At that time, almost 300 million tablets would make up the sector, with a more balanced sales outlook, although still under Apple's dominance: 47 percent of the market would be theirs thanks to 138.5 million devices sold. It would be followed closely by the set of terminals with Android, which would represent 38.6 percent of all tablets sold (reflecting sales of 113.5 million terminals).
