Table of contents:
We recently talked about how ZTE had confirmed that its ZTE Blade V8 would have support for virtual reality content, and we were wondering how it was going to be done. Now, Google has given us an important clue by reporting that it is in the process of expanding the number of devices that will be able to access its Daydream virtual reality platform.
In October, Google introduced its platform for playing virtual reality content, Daydream, in addition to its popular cloth glasses, the Daydream View. At the time, both were exclusive to the Google Pixel and Pixel XL. Now, however, they have decided to allow other brands that are already taking steps in virtual reality for mobile to receive compatibility with their services and thus take advantage of an infrastructure already created. We are probably before the first steps of a new Play Store for virtual reality, which will be generalized on Android as the format receives acceptance.
In a statement, Google has given precise data on the models that will receive support, among which we find the Huawei Mate 9 Pro, in its standard edition and the Porsche Design, the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force, the Asus ZenForce AR and finally the ZTE Axon 7. Only a privileged few for now, but without a doubt the list will be completed with each new model that appears ready for virtual reality.
Expanding limits
A Google interests you without a doubt that his services are not remain anchored in specific models, but they become reference for use worldwide Android. As of today, the content included in Daydream is limited, but it is sure that it will soon pick up a better pace, becoming a very juicy source of income for the search engine. In addition, opening the market for its Daydream View will be beneficial for the business, since the number of Google Pixel users globally is small, in number and in size (in Spain it is not yet available, for example). Although companies like Huawei orZTE are in the process of developing and marketing their own glasses, just the fact of including the possibility of acquiring Google glasses will be a good boost for sales. Also, there don't seem to be many more brands interested in offering glasses with the Daydream View design, so if you like the curious fabric finish, you only have one option.
