With the arrival of the Huawei P30 Pro, its predecessor, the Huawei P20 Pro, has been a step behind. As with every new generation, the P30 Pro has evolved in both design and performance. We are now facing one of the best mobiles of the company. The device comes with a Kirin 980 processor accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB storage. The camera is another of the great novelties of this new model, especially if we take into account its four sensors and its 5x optical zoom without loss of quality, something never seen before on a mobile.
Huawei has also increased the battery capacity and added Androd 9 Pie along with the EMUI 9.1 customization layer. Is it therefore worth choosing the new team over its predecessor? Keep reading if you want us to help you out of doubt.

Design and display
If we put one next to the other we will see that the resemblance is there. Both are Huawei phones and also range brothers, although there is a year difference between the two. The evolution is evident, but we cannot deny that there is a family resemblance. However, Huawei has modernized the chassis and elements of the P30 Pro. To begin with, it has enlarged the screen by further reducing the bezels and has slightly curved it. Another interesting aspect is that it has eliminated the notch or notch of the P20 Pro. Of course, it has not replaced it with one in the form of a drop of water or a perforation on the screen.
Huawei P30 Pro
In any case, some elements that were present in its predecessor have been removed from the middle. For example, the fingerprint reader, which is now under the panel. So does the physical speaker. The P30 Pro uses screen vibrations to reproduce audio. The negative with this is that it does not offer stereo sound when listening to music or watching a video. We will have to see how it behaves in more detailed tests.
If we turn it around, we also notice that more modern halo, with changes in the layout of the main camera, which now also comes with an additional sensor of the TOF 3D type, designed to collect information on the volume of objects and depth. The Leica seal of the camera and the logo of the brand are also very present on the housing. And if what most attracted attention at the time at the aesthetic level of the Huawei P20 Pro was its new Twilight color, which combines purple and blue, the Huawei P30 Pro has surprised with new bright colors, among which we can mention Amber Sunrise and Breathing Crystal.
Huawei P20 Pro
As far as the screen is concerned, the P30 Pro is somewhat larger than the P20 Pro and curves very much in the style of the Samsung Galaxy S10. This is another of the things that you have to take into account when choosing one or the other. If you like large panels, pay attention because the P30 Pro comes with a 6.47-inch OLED type, curved and with a 19.5: 9 ratio. That of its predecessor is also OLED, although 6.1 inches and 18.7: 9 ratio. The two coincide in resolution: FullHD + (2,340 x 1,080 pixels).
Huawei P30 Pro
Processor and memory
Huawei has made a leap in the performance level in the P30 Pro over its predecessor. The new model shares a brain with the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. It includes a Kirin 980 processor, manufactured in 7 nanometers with two neural processing units (NPU), designed so that the terminal does not suffer so much when giving more prominence to the processes related to Artificial Intelligence. This means that the P30 Pro can easily recognize a large number of situations automatically and in real time, applying, for example, special filters with the camera. It also allows you to improve brightness or image stabilization when recording video.
This SoC is accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and several options for storage: 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB (without the possibility of expansion). The P20 Pro only comes with a single capacity, 128 GB, which cannot be expanded using memory cards either. This team also stays in a 6 GB RAM and its processor is a Kirin 970, last year's model. In any case, it is still a very capable, high-end phone that will allow you to work fluently with it without any problem, use apps with heavy graphics and have several processes in use at the same time.
Huawei P20 Pro
Photographic section
One of the most important novelties of the P30 Pro is found precisely in the photographic section. Unlike the P20 Pro, the new model does not include three cameras on its rear, if not four. The main sensor includes a 40-megapixel sensor with a bright wide-angle lens with f / 1.6 aperture. This is followed by a second 20-megapixel sensor and an ultra-wide-angle lens with f / 2.2 aperture. The third is a telephoto lens with a resolution of 8 megapixels and aperture f / 3.4.
There is a very notable difference between this telephoto lens and the one that incorporates the P20 Pro. It is a 5x optical zoom, capable of reaching 10x in hybrid mode. The one in the P20 Pro had to settle for 5x magnification via hybrid technology. This means that when starting it up, quality is not lost, managing to better capture details in the distance. With this model it is also possible to reach a 50x digital zoom. Although it is true that a lot of definition is lost, it does not stop surprising as we see in the following image.
Huawei P30 Pro
To this trio of sensors is added an additional 3D TOF-type camera, designed to collect information on the volume or depth of objects. This will be useful when shooting bokeh or blur photos. For the selfies section, we have a 32-megapixel front camera with f / 2.0 aperture. The 20 Pro has a 24-megapixel one, so in this sense we also see improvements.
Huawei P20 Pro
Finally, it is necessary to emphasize that as in the rest of the most current models of the company, artificial intelligence (AI) plays a prominent role in the performance of the new P30 Pro. The Asian firm has confirmed that it has improved its AI algorithms with The purpose of polishing the performance of the equipment when capturing portraits or night images.
Autonomy
Inside the Huawei P20 Pro there is a 4,000 mAh battery with fast charging. This year this capacity has grown to 4,200 mAh, and in addition to fast charging (40W SuperCharge), 15W wireless charging has been added, as well as a reverse wireless charging option. This last feature came with the Mate 20 Pro and allows you to extract part of the energy from one device to transfer it to the other. To use this system you have to enter the device settings: "Battery> Invert wireless charging", and place another Qi-compatible mobile on it to start charging.
Huawei P30 Pro
At this point: which one to buy?
If you are thinking of buying one of the two models and at this point you still do not know what to do, perhaps the price factor will make you doubt. The Huawei P20 Pro in its only option of 128 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM costs 580 euros today. The more restrained version of the P30 Pro (8 GB + 128 GB) is priced at 950 euros. It is true that this model is superior to its predecessor in all respects, but the P20 Pro is still a highly recommended option within the high-end range, and it will still take a long time to become outdated.
If, on the other hand, you are a sibartita of the latest technologies in the sector and want to benefit from the improvement in performance, with the new TOF 3D sensor and the curved design with a larger screen and fingerprint reader just below, then go ahead and get the one. new team. Whatever you do, either of the two models will surprise you in all sections. You already know that if you have tried any and want to leave us your impressions, you can do so in the comments section.
