The Huawei P30s are already here officially, and not just through leaks. Huawei's high-end is renewed for another year with terminals focused on photography. After the success of the Huawei P20 Pro and its possibilities in dark environments or to solve any photographic situation more than effectively, now the Huawei P30 Pro arrives with everything learned by the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, and other interesting developments from the Chinese manufacturer.
And it should be noted that the Huawei P30 Pro has a new way of applying photographic technology. A new way of recognizing the environment to get more information and luminosity that translate into detailed photos even in almost totally dark places. And not only this, but also the support of Artificial Intelligence to solve situations such as a 50x zoom. Amazing technologies that, until now, no other manufacturer has shown live and direct. But better let's see in parts what this terminal presents.

Four Leica cameras + one
Huawei goes a step further after what was seen in the Huawei P20 Pro. In this P30 Pro we not only see three cameras to solve situations such as portraying a landscape or a distant detail. It also has a fourth TOF-type camera focused on measuring depth and capable of calculating volumes of objects. An addition that has a lot to do with image enhancement technologies in functions such as portrait mode, thus being able to measure many more levels of depth to apply a more natural blur.
The scheme is maintained in the Huawei Mate 20 Pro with a 27 mm 40-megapixel wide-angle lens with OIS and f / 1.6 aperture plus a 16-mm 20-megapixel ultra-wide angle with f / 2.2 and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens. 125mm with OIS and f / 3.4 aperture. Qualities for capturing normal photos, wide or with distant details (especially distant, although this will be explained later). But now the aforementioned TOF camera is also added on the side of the lens almond. And we do not forget the 32 megapixel selfie camera with 2.0 aperture, which makes it the first mobile with four Leica lenses.
50x periscope zoom
But if there has been a feature that has marked the presentation of this terminal that is its zoom. The aforementioned telephoto lens of the Huawei P30 Pro is periscope. In other words, it has a system of several lenses and elements that allow you to enlarge the image up to 5x without losing definition or detail. Of course, for this, they have had to install a prism (square objective) that reflects the light and information that reaches the mobile, rotates it 90 degrees to the right of the back of the terminal and projects it through the different lenses to the sensor in question. A technology that allows, together with Artificial Intelligence, to create a zoom never seen before of 50x.
In our first contact with this characteristic we could not help but be left with our mouths open. Of course, after a few minutes we have seen that it may not be the most used function of the terminal, at least to share the results due to its definition and focus. But perhaps the most curious and appreciated by those who have vision problems.
The Huawei P30 Pro can enlarge the image without quality loss up to 5x. To do this, the interface of the camera application allows us to make the pinch gesture or click on the number on the right. If we enlarge the image, the digital part comes into play, reaching 10X in a hybrid way (part of the optical mechanism and part of the digital crop). But it is the most extreme function, the 50x zoom, that has blown our minds. Although the resulting image is not as sharp or sharp, if it allows us to glimpse details that even our own eye cannot see. We've tested it to see the details of a foot-long painting at the other end of a showroom. Or to see the flag of a ship more than 50 meters away. Of course, we have had problems to frame the detail, and is that with such a zoom any movement of the wrist is a great tremor for the lens. But, with some patience and practice, this feature promises to solve many of our doubts, although some of them focus on solving gossip.
A new way of doing digital photography
But the key to the Huawei P30 Pro's photography system is given not by its periscopic telephoto lens, but by technological changes when it comes to collecting information through the main lens. In this Huawei has placed its SuperSensing lenses, which modify the classic RGB sensor system (red, green and blue) for the RYB (red, yellow and blue). A change that may seem subtle, but that has led them to rethink the way they portray the world through their wide-angle lens.
By using a yellow sensor instead of green it is possible to collect a larger light spectrum. That is, more information about luminosity and details that go into yellow and not green. With this they have managed to reach a maximum luminosity that goes from ISO 102400 of the Huawei P20 Pro, to ISO 409600 of this Huawei P30 Pro. And what does this translate into? Well, simple: to be able to take a photograph in a room in almost total darkness and get details such as shapes, color and other issues that normal cameras cannot, and that even the eye cannot see. But Huawei has not stopped there.
Along with this technical feature, the manufacturer has used image enhancement technologies based on Artificial Intelligence. They call it Huawei AIS, and consists of assisting the user to achieve the best possible results. It is used in night mode, allowing the user to portray scenes with details that would otherwise be plunged into darkness. It is surprising, but we cannot say that the result is attractive or realistic until we try it on our own meats. But it is also used in portrait mode, where we have already verified that the result is much more natural and realistic when applying the blur. And, with more information and detail through the SuperSensing lenses and the help of the TOF camera to measure depth, it is possible to see hair and other defined details and a blur applied in a much more natural way. In addition, other issues and modes such as long exposure have been improved,You still don't need a tripod to show amazing results.
Apart from this, Artificial Intelligence is applied with what Huawei calls AI HDR +, which allows scanning and lightly understanding each scene in real time. Thus, the Huawei P30 Pro knows where it has to brighten the image in a backlight so as not to lose detail in the contrast between the point of light and dark areas.
And beware, these image enhancement technologies are also finally applied to video recording. That is why the Huawei P30 Pro has advanced image stabilization to achieve professional cutting results without using a tripod or gimbal. Or to brighten the image in dark environments without losing detail. It is also possible to enlarge the image and zoom 10x with a much more dignified and detailed result than in the Huawei P20 Pro.
Curved and gradient design
Another of the highlights of the Huawei P30 Pro is its design. In our first experience with it we have had very good sensations both through touch and sight. In the first place, because the finishes are Premium, and it is a balanced mobile in the hand, although more focused on those who like it large. The finishes have been pampered so that there is not even a headset in sight (integrated into the screen). And it's comfortable thanks to the curvatures on both the sides of the screen and the back shell. Something that is very reminiscent of Samsung, but that is appreciated when it comes to ergonomics and design.
Regarding the view there are no complaints. Especially in the back, where Huawei has once again bet to stand out. We especially liked the Ambient Sunrise finish: a gradient orange that attracts a lot of attention, with sparkles and sparkles that do not go unnoticed. Although there are also other more subtle colors (pearl white, light blue and black) and an Aurora finish that plays both with the sparkles and with the shape of these. Undoubtedly a mobile to show off and that is recognizable just by looking at it from behind.
The biggest criticism in this regard would be, perhaps, the permanence of the notch on the front. The notch is reduced compared to that seen in the Huawei P20 Pro to adopt the shape of a drop. Now that the fashion is to pierce the panel to house the selfie camera, it seems to us that Huawei has lost the opportunity to make a round mobile phone updated to the trends of the moment. It doesn't distract or subtract information from the 6.47-inch OLED panel, but it does seem to take it off the hook from current fashions.
A lot of intelligence and good autonomy
To give life to this large OLED panel with a FullHD + resolution, as well as to process all the information collected by its cameras and other sensors, Huawei has once again relied on the Kirin 980 SoC processor. The same one we already met in the Mate 20 Pro. There is no complaint here when seeing what they have achieved with the subject of Artificial Intelligence through the two NPUs (neural processing units) that the chip includes. It is accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and, in terms of storage, it is possible to choose between three options: 128, 256 or 512 GB of capacity. All of them with the possibility of being expanded using NM type memory cards.
All this is directed by Android 9 Pie, and sweetened with the EMUI customization layer in its version 9.1 That is to say that it arrives updated in support issues, operating system news and security, and with all the customization options already classic from Huawei.
And if what worries you is the battery, Huawei has once again juggled to introduce a 4,200 mAh battery in a fairly light terminal. Of course, without forgetting some features already achieved that help us to forget about the charger or the percentage of the battery: it has fast charging and wireless fast charging, but also with the possibility of sharing its load with other devices (15w).
