Paris is the place chosen by Huawei to present its new family of high-end mobiles, which has the Huawei P30 as its base model. That is, a terminal that marks the lines in design and characteristics, but without being the model that comes with all the technological advances of the company. Something that they have delegated to the Huawei P30 Pro.
We have had the opportunity to test this Huawei P30 for a few minutes in an exclusive press pass. That is where we check what the sensations are in hand, but also how the news and advances of the company are seen in it. A terminal with 6.1 inches of screen that repeats the triple camera system (angular, ultra-wide angle and telephoto) and boasts a lot of Artificial Intelligence. Of course, it is its 30x zoom and the possibility of capturing dark scenes with a certain brightness where it stands out.

Same brain, but smarter
In Huawei they have once again trusted the Kirin 980 to provide the Huawei P30 with intelligence and capabilities. It is not surprising how well the Huawei Mate 20 Pro has done. This 7-nanometer processor includes two neural processing units that help all the Artificial Intelligence in this mobile work fast and fast. Of course, its 6 GB of RAM memory also has something to do with the terminal being considered high-end and can move any application or game of the moment without problems. Its storage capacity is 128 GB, but it can be expanded using a NM type memory card.
The Artificial Intelligence that we mentioned is present, above all, in the photographic section. Here it assists the image as we already know, automatically recognizing scenes to suggest different filters and improvements, but also improving the night or portrait modes. It is what Huawei has called Huawei AIS, which focuses on enhancing the night mode to capture all kinds of details in dark environments, but also to achieve a portrait mode full of definition and realism when applying blur. And the same to ensure that the long exposure mode continues to be used to create drawings with lights without using a tripod.
One 30x digital zoom
Although the Huawei P30 does not have the photographic advances of the Huawei P30 Pro, it is not far behind in terms of one of its star functions. And it is that this family of Huawei mobiles will go down in history for its zoom.
In the case of the Huawei P30 pro, its telephoto lens allows you to apply a 3x optical zoom. That is, three magnifications in which the mechanics of your lens allow you to zoom in on an image without losing definition or detail. The interesting thing is that we can continue to increase the digital zoom and get up to 30 increases. The result, according to our first experiences, is not that of a completely sharp photo. However, the experience is surprising. And we have not seen this in other mobiles, managing to see distant details with a worthy quality, even when our own eye is not able to define it.
A plus point is that Huawei has brought this feature to video recording as well. Here, in addition, the Huawei AIS Artificial Intelligence is present again, so we get brighter scenes and greater recording stability when we enter video mode.
Notched, curve-free display
The design of this Huawei P30 does not dispense with the notch or notch on its screen. It continues to cling to the drop model, as it already did on the Huawei P20. The strange thing is that it does not join the trend of the hole in the screen to house its camera for selfies (32 megapixels) as other manufacturers are doing. Something that would give it a more sophisticated and advanced touch.
This panel is OLED type, and with its 6.1 inches in size it has a FullHD + resolution. It is bright and very colorful from what we have been able to see. Although we will not issue a true verdict until we test it in detail. What we have appreciated is less detail in the finishes than in the Huawei P30 Pro. We notice it in the presence of the speaker above the notch, or in the lack of curvature both on the sides of the screen and at the ends of the rear. Again, small points that highlight that this Huawei P30 is not the jewel in the crown or the pampered model in this family. But beware, it is not far behind and it also includes the integrated fingerprint reader at the bottom.
Of course, the rear is still a house brand. And it is that Huawei continues to bet on striking colors, shiny glass finishes and fingerprint marks (bad for those of us who have greasy fingers). It is a mobile to attract attention, and any color except the black tone is mesmerizing, as was the case with the Huawei P20 in its day.
Fast charging and all connectivity
The Huawei P30 is the middle of the brothers in its family. It is noticeable in its 6.1-inch screen and in its body something more compact and ergonomic for the average hand. And it is also reflected in the size of the battery. Of course, despite this it has a 3,650 mAh battery and Huawei fast charge. Wireless fast charging and the possibility of sharing it with other devices have not been left in the pipeline either.
Regarding the connectivity section we see a complete terminal. We do not miss the NFC, or the Bluetooth 5.0, not even the headphone port. It comes with the capacity to connect to category 16 Internet networks to download at a speed of up to 1 Gbps. So there are no problems in terms of speed and connection when browsing the Internet or using all kinds of peripherals such as wireless headphones, smart watches, etc.
By the way, it has Dolby Atmos sound to create an enveloping sound sensation. It also supports BT aptx, aptx HD, LDAC and LHDC as sound protocols. So it promises to be a good platform to play audiovisual content.
Conclusions
The Huawei P30 arrives as a natural evolution of last year's Huawei P20. A little drastic jump if we look at the hallmarks such as the notch or notch and the bright colors of the back cover.
The novelty is in the cameras, which are now more capable and bright. And above all in the addition and evolution of Artificial Intelligence regarding the results. Something that allows you to get photos with details even in practically dark scenes, or apply an amazing 30x digital zoom.
Without a doubt, a good terminal if we pay attention to the technical sheet, and that surprises in the first contact according to our own experience. But it will be necessary to test it in depth to know all the details about it.
