The 2019 Mobile World Congress is going to be remembered as the folding mobile event. A few days ago we saw the Samsung terminal and today it was Huawei to present its own. This terminal is the Huawei Mate X, the new star of the Asian firm. Its design is as expected taking into account the main characteristic, it is a terminal whose screen folds. We can use it folded to have a more conventional screen ratio or use it in its maximum expression with the screen without folding.
The Huawei Mate X is not a concept, it is a consumer mobile. Therein lies the importance of it, both he and the Galaxy Fold are a bet on the future by companies. The innovation necessary to create, or at least try, a new terminal format. They may be the only ones right now, but we can't foresee what will happen in the future. At the moment we tell you everything we know about the Huawei Mate X.
Folding screen in a sleek and unconventional design
It is impossible to talk about this terminal without talking about its screen, the Huawei Mate X has a 6.6-inch OLED screen with a QHD resolution or 2480 x 1148 pixels. This resolution is that of the main screen when folded. The secondary screen is 6.38 inches in size with 25: 9 format and 2480 x 892 resolution. The full screen that is generated when not folded is 8 inches, the resolution is 2480 x 2200 in 8: 7.1 format. This panel is what has made it possible to be a terminal whose screen can be foldedLet's remember that OLED panels are flexible and the image is transmitted across the screen from a fixed area. It does not need any type of back lighting to produce the image, in this way we get it to bend without the panel suffering any kind of mishap.
The screen has a considerable size when it is not folded, the body of the terminal on the other hand is even discreet and with quite contained measures. All this if we take into account that it is like having a terminal with two screens. Its construction is made of metal and glass with a hinge in the area where the fold is made. These materials allow it to be resistant to occasional drops and bumps. The terminal has a thickness of 5.4 with the screen unfolded and 11 millimeters with the screen folded. You have to take into account the double screen. Now a fall can be fatal when the terminal is folded. Huawei has thought about this and has developed a special cover for its terminal.
Power for demanding users
Inside the chassis of the terminal we find a processor from the house itself. The 7 nanometer Kirin 980 is in charge of moving the different applications on the multiple screens. This processor is accompanied by 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. These figures are more than enough to move any type of heavy application or game. The autonomy is marked by a battery in two modules whose total amperage is 4,500 mAh, in the absence of testing the terminal, we hope it is more than enough for daily use.
In the case of running out of battery and having to resort to the charger, the charge would be extremely fast. Huawei has improved the charging speed of its Super Charge, now it has a power of 55W with what in 30 minutes we will have charged up to 85%. This charge is well above the competition, even above the One Plus. In the connectivity section, it has the essentials for a terminal of this category. But it also has microSD and Dual SIM. We have NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, dual band WiFi and the most important point is the compatibility with 5G networks thanks to the Balong 5000 modem.
Price and availability
The Huawei Mate X will be available from the second half of the year, its starting price will be 2,299 euros. It is a terminal with a significantly high price, but it is justifiable since the innovation is not cheap. We can only wait to see if it is really worth this price.
