Taiwanese HTC intends to continue working side by side with Mark Zuckerberg's (Facebook) company. According to the latest rumors, both companies would already be working on launching on the market —before the end of this year 2012— a new mobile phone based on Android and with direct access to the great social network.
HTC's collaboration with Facebook isn't new. There are already mobiles on the market that have a button in the design that gives direct access to the social network to be able to follow the events of friends or to upload comments and photos in an easy and fast way. We refer to terminals such as HTC ChaChaCha or HTC Salsa - the latter is not sold in Spain.
However, in this new collaboration - as reported by the DigiTimes medium - it would be something different from what has been seen so far. The intentions of Facebook - perhaps more like Zuckerberg - is the ability to compete directly with Google and its Nexus range. That is to say, contrary to what has happened with the HTC ChaChaCha or HTC Salsa, which are members of the catalog of terminals of the Taiwanese manufacturer, in this case it would be the first terminal for Facebook or Facebook Phone, in the purest Google Phone style. As indicated, the terminal could be ready by the last quarter of the year.
Facebook could have targeted Samsung. However, it should be remembered that it has already collaborated since the second generation of Google Nexus mobiles (the Nexus S), the Samsung Galaxy Nexus being the most recent and powerful of the small Mountain View catalog. On the other hand, Google has started selling it directly from its Google Play store. Although this movement - as a pilot test - is only available in the United States, as announced by Andy Rubin from the company's own official blog.
On the other hand, the rumors that emerged from the Asian publication also suggest that both companies will continue to bet on Google's mobile platform: Android. Although the version has not been highlighted. What has been mentioned is that the terminal would integrate all the functions of the social network and with direct access from the keyboard itself, physical or virtual.
However, the comments that Mark Zuckerberg made when the HTC phones were presented should not be left out. He commented that the intentions of the company were not to close on a single platform and that they preferred to be available in all existing models; that is to say, universally. Therefore, the leader of the largest social network of the moment - it has 900 million active users - did not want to launch any Facebook Phone (Facebook phone in English) to the market.
Neither HTC nor Facebook have commented on the matter. Also, keep in mind that DigiTimes is a great source of rumors and not all of them lead to success. Therefore, the leaked information must be taken with a grain of salt.
