While much of the planet is still welcoming the arrival of the recently unveiled HTC One M8, rumors have already surfaced pointing to the possibility that the Taiwanese company HTC is working on a new version of this smartphone. Far from being an improved version with exclusive specifications, it seems that it will simply be a cheap edition of the HTC One M8. And the characteristic that will make the difference in this economic edition will be the material of the terminal's housing, which will go from being metallic to being made up of the most affordable material in the mobile phone sector: plastic.
This small difference could make up to a 50% difference in price compared to the original HTC One M8. While this smartphone currently costs about 650 euros, the economic version could have a starting price of around 350 euros. Of course, as is usual in this type of news, everything indicates that this economic version will only reach emerging markets (mainly in Asia).
Recall that the HTC One M8 is a mobile that hides inside features such as a quad- core processor running at 2.3 GHz, 2 Gigabytes of RAM, 16 Gigabytes of internal storage and the new double-camera located on the back terminal.
By way of reflection, it should be noted that this type of news opens the debate in relation to the prices that manufacturers assign to their high-end smartphones. We cannot deny the reality that cell phones from large companies are sold in uncountable quantities around the world even despite their high starting prices. But, without this entailing denying the above reality, the truth is that there is also an important market of users who would not mind giving up the aspect of the quality of the casing materials in exchange for being able to acquire the same mobile from a most affordable price.
This simple reflection leads us to another important fact in relation to the current mobile phone sector. The South Korean manufacturer Samsung, considered one of the benchmarks in the manufacture of smartphones, produces its terminals using plastic as the main material in the cases. And this detail does not make any difference in price, since we are still facing mobile phones that go on the market with relatively high starting prices.
Leaving this data aside, the only thing we are clear about at the moment is that there are many possibilities that the plastic HTC One M8 will be officially presented throughout the month of May. By then we will probably know if this new terminal will also reach other markets in addition to emerging ones.
