The spiraling fall of the Taiwanese HTC seems unstoppable. And far from catching the bull by the horns, the company seems determined to continue insisting on the failures that are earning it a notable setback compared to the competition. Two have been the points that determine the drop in sales, as can be deduced from the strategy of recent years: the lack of a marketing policy that helps to position its terminals and the recurrence of prices that make them very uncompetitive. With the new, HTC Desire 700 and HTC Desire 501, recently presented in Taiwan, he insists: mid-range mobiles with an interesting technical profile that take their feet out of the pot when you say what it costs to buy them.
The HTC Desire 501 is the simpler of the two. It continues the design line of the equipment that it presented last year, betting on a range of chromatic finishes with engraved details that make them quite beautiful. The screen is 4.3 inches and the resolution reaches 800 x 480 pixels. Inside it houses a 1.15 GHz dual-core processor accompanied by a GB of RAM.
The cameras are the most interesting of their features: a pair of eight and two megapixel sensors are located on the back and front of the equipment, respectively, completing the main features with a connectivity box led by Wi-Fi, 3G sensors and NFC. It has eight GB of internal memory and the battery anticipates a reasonable autonomy, thanks to its 2,100 milliamps.
The problem is in the price: 9,900 Taiwanese dollars which at the current exchange rate, respecting the translation of currencies, is close to 250 euros. In North American currency, it reaches 334 dollars. This suggests that, faced with a possible import to Europe, it will remain close to 300 euros, which would be a bad bet for its possible target audience if we compare it with other similar equipment.
We continue now with the HTC Desire 700. This terminal, like the previous one and the version of the HTC Desire 601 that has also been revealed, is a dual SIM mobile. Its design follows precisely the line of the HTC Desire 601, which in turn is inspired by the high-end equipment that the Taiwanese has shown this year (the HTC One, HTC One Mini and HTC One Max). Technically it is known for its five - inch screen with resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, plus integrating a quad - core processor at 1.2 GHz. Again, repeat with eight GB of internal memory and one GB of RAM.
It also carries a 2,100-milliamp battery and makes its younger brother's camera combo extensible. The main problem, in addition to the price, which we will talk about next, is its operating system: HTC makes a mistake by launching this device with Android 4.1 as standard, a somewhat outdated version if you want to see faces with similar mobiles. The $ 13,900 Taiwan it costs doesn't help either. They represent about 344 euros at the current exchange rate that will probably end up approaching 400 euros if it reaches the Old Continent. The plan, viewed this way, will not drive a correction in the manufacturer's trajectory.
