Display and layout
As we have already anticipated, the HTC Desire 320 bets on balance, with a 4.5-inch diagonal screen. It offers a wide surface to move around the interface with ease, but it is much more manageable and easier to transport than most high-end mobiles. The screen is a TFT with 24-bit color and its resolution is 854 x 480 pixels, which results in a density of 218 dots per inch.
The design follows the same lines as the rest of the Desire series, with rounded corners and edges and a plastic back shell. Measuring 132 x 67.8 x 10.5 millimeters, not just thin, and weighs 145 grams. It will go on sale in white and dark gray, both with a black front.
Camera and multimedia
HTC has opted for a simple camera, quite far from what they offer in higher-level equipment. The sensor has 5 megapixels of resolution, so the images will be quite large (2,592 x 1,944 pixels). However, its focus is fixed and therefore it does not allow to photograph objects from very close, since they are out of focus. It also does not have an LED flash, so the use of the camera is limited to situations with good lighting. It has basic functions like geo-tagging, panorama mode and image editor. HTC includes the HTC Video Highlights feature, that creates videos with music from the photos in our album. Speaking of videos, the HTC Desire 320 scores somewhat by allowing FullHD recording. It has a VGA front camera.
The multimedia profile has the basic functions. It has an integrated player, compatible with the most common formats and codecs. It also includes a loudspeaker to listen to music or use the hands-free and allows you to dictate and record voice.
Power, memory and operating system
HTC has opted for a Mediatek processor, a Chinese brand that makes chips for mid-range equipment. This in particular is a Mediatek MT6582, a quad-core with Cortex A 7 architecture that runs at 1.3 Ghz clock frequency. It is accompanied by a Mali-400 MP2 graphics processor that works at 500 Mhz. The RAM memory is quite scarce, only 512 Mb, like the internal memory, which remains at 4 Gb.In addition, it must be taken into account that the system takes up space and the available capacity will be less (around 2 Gb). To avoid running out of memory, it will be necessary to use a MicroSD memory card (up to an additional 32 GB).
The HTC Desire 320 comes standard with Android 4.4 KitKat, a version that has already been superseded by Android 5.0 Lollipop, but this model will not be able to enjoy its advantages, at least not yet. HTC has not commented on a possible update, so we will have to wait. It includes the entire suite of Google applications and the HTC Sense visual overlay, which comes with special features like the HTC BlinkFeed widget, a customizable newsreader.
Connectivity and autonomy
As expected, the HTC Desire 320 does not have a 4G connection, but rather connects to the Internet through 3G mobile networks, which can reach a maximum speed of 21 Mbps. It also includes WiFi and the possibility of creating a WiFi zone from the mobile connection to connect other equipment. It could not miss the GPS antenna, to be able to use location services and be able to consult routes, and a Bluetooth wireless port. It also includes a minijack for headphones and a MicroUSB to charge the battery or transfer data to the computer.
Includes a removable 2,100 milliamp battery. The official data of HTC indicates that the terminal can be up to 12 hours without going through the plug when we use the 3G connection. The duration of rest rises to 690 hours, almost 29 days.
Availability and opinions
HTC has confirmed that the HTC Desire 320 will be on sale from next February, but for now there has been no talk of price. However, it is a terminal that is clearly aimed at users looking for an affordable device. It remains to be seen if HTC manages to stand out in this regard. The HTC Desire 320 is a simple mobile that offers the functions to perform basic tasks such as connecting to the Internet, downloading applications, taking a photo in a timely manner or playing a game. However, there are shortcomings such as that the focus of the camera is fixed or that the RAM memoryit is only 512 Mb; This is why price will be the deciding factor in competing in the mobile landscape.
