The arrival of MIUI 11 has not sat as well with some Xiaomi phones as expected. In terminals of the Chinese firm with restrained hardware the user experience can leave something to be desired. Going back to MIUI 10 is not an easy and simple solution. Nor is there any trick that allows us to increase the speed of the system as if by magic. What we can do is apply a series of methods that allow us to improve the performance of the phone, and with it, the response speed.

Speed up animations to improve MIUI speed
The best solution to speed up a Xiaomi mobile is to reduce the time in which the system animations run. Like any method that involves tweaking aspects of Android, modifying this parameter requires activating what is known as Developer Settings.
To activate this hidden menu we will have to go to the About the phone section, where we will find a statement with the name of MIUI Version, which we will have to touch a total of seven times. The system will then issue a message saying that we are already developers. Accessing the development menu is as simple as going to the Additional Settings section within the Settings application itself.
Within the menu we will have to scroll to the following options:
- Window animation level
- Animation level of transitions
- Animation duration level
Ideally, to make the mobile faster is to set the figure at.5x in Animation Scale. We can also choose to completely disable animations. In any case, we will notice a much more agile performance of the device when opening applications and navigating between the MIUI options.
Limit processes that run in the background
Running several applications at the same time on Xiaomi phones with 1 or 2 GB of RAM can hinder MIUI performance significantly. Therefore, it is best to limit the number of processes that run in the background in RAM. Again we will have to resort to the Developer Settings to modify this parameter.
Once inside the aforementioned menu, we will go to the Application section, and more specifically to the option to Limit background processes. Depending on the amount of RAM on our phone, we will have to set a figure between 1 and 4.
From tuexperto.com we recommend setting the figure to 2 or 3. We must bear in mind, however, that applications will constantly reload their content as they are limited by the system, especially those that consume excess memory.
Turn off automatic updates from Play Store
It's a fact: Google Services consume a lot of resources on Android. Part of this consumption is due to automatic updates from the Google store. Not only do they slow down the system, they also take up a good chunk of device RAM space.
To limit the update of applications we will have to go to the Google Play application and then display the side menu. Within this menu we will go to the Settings section and finally to Update applications automatically.
Ideally, leave the option Do not update applications automatically. If we want to update the applications later, we can do it manually through the My applications and games section.
Don't fill the phone memory
It may sound impractical, but the truth is that flash memories significantly reduce their performance when they are full of information. The most effective way to clean the garbage from the system is based on resorting to the MIUI Cleaning application, which we can find in the Security section in Settings or as an independent application with the name of Cleaner.
After opening the application, the system will start looking for all residual files on the system, as well as duplicate images and videos and large files. However, the ideal is to click on the Deep cleaning option to further clear the phone storage.
Improve game performance with this trick
One of the most relevant news of MIUI 11 comes from the hand of Game Turbo, a system that allows improving the performance of games by focusing all the attention of the hardware on the execution of the titles installed on the phone. Version 2.0 allows to further improve performance by limiting the execution of processes outside these.
Accessing this function is as simple as going to the Special functions section or the Game Accelerator application that we can find on the MIUI Desktop. Next we will add all the titles that we want to be optimized with the aforementioned game system.
Within the application settings we can adjust a series of additional parameters that will help us to restrict notifications, force the orientation of the screen (vertical and horizontal), limit certain applications in memory,…
Clear application cache
It does not serve to improve the performance of the system directly but it does to increase the space available on the phone. In applications like Google Chrome or Twitter they can be several hundred megabytes, as we can see in the screenshot below.
Clearing the cache in MIUI is as simple as going to the Applications section in Settings and then selecting the Manage applications option. Now we will only have to select the applications one by one. Within each of the applications we will go to the Storage option and finally to the Clear cache option.
