Or one of two: either companies invested in increasing the autonomy of mobile batteries or they opted to improve fast charging technology. The latest movements of firms such as Xiaomi first and, now, Samsung, reveal that the second route is chosen. At the end of last March Xiaomi, Wang Xiang, confirmed news in this regard: a new technology in which they were involved, a fast charge that would reach 100 W and would charge the terminal in just over a quarter of an hour (or 20% in just three minutes).
Samsung wants you to charge your mobile faster
Now it is the Korean Samsung that is targeting the 100 W technology by announcing the launch of two new USB Type C controllers that would support loads of up to 100 W of power. The current fast charging of the Samsung Galaxy S10 stays at 25 W which would mean a great speed increase in charging. The Korean brand claims that these two new controllers (which will bear the names SE8A and MM101 PD) will be able to be used in a wide range of different products such as smartphones, tablets or smart TVs. Mass production of the SE8A model has now begun and the MM101 is in the demonstration phase to potential buyers.
The SE8A controller is the first DP to combine a safe element with a power controller, all on a single chip. This will increase the security levels of the equipment, enabling the storage of security keys and the encryption and decoding of confidential data within the same device. For its part, the MM101 controller supports a symmetric encryption algorithm in relation to the authentication of legitimate products. Among the security measures applied to the MM101 we find a humidity detector to ensure safer charging environments.
Both controllers will have protection against power surges, in addition to complying with the latest USB-PD 3 fast charging specification, in order to offer a more optimized charge, always delivering the right amount of power to the device. They also have built-in Flash (eFlash technology) allowing manufacturers to update their software to meet the latest specifications without having to modify the equipment.
