Much of the efforts of manufacturers in the mobile phone market are to improve the battery life of their mobile phones. This usually improves result in both increased capacity of the battery itself as an optimization of the operating system. In the case of the American company Apple, it is difficult to talk about battery capacities due to the simple reason that those from Cupertino do not provide this information in the technical sheets of their mobiles, but what we can analyze is… how has it progressed the autonomy of the Apple iPhone since the launch of the first iPhone back in 2007 ?
The first iPhone was presented in 2007, and although today it is difficult to discover the capacity of the battery that this mobile phone incorporated, the official autonomy figures reveal that this smartphone reached up to 250 hours in rest, up to eight hours in conversation and up to 24 hours while playing music. All in a smartphone incorporating a screen of 3.5 inches with a resolution set at 480 x 320 pixels.
We jump to 2008 and we find the launch of the iPhone 3G. This terminal is also provided with a screen of 3.5 inches whose resolution was set at 480 x 320 pixels, but offered new as far as range is concerned: reaching up to 300 hours at rest, up to ten hours talk time and up to 24 hours for playing music. The launch of Apple's next mobile, the iPhone 3GS, occurred in 2009. This launch was accompanied by an autonomy of up to 300 hours in rest,up to 12 hours in 2G talk / up to five hours in 3G talk and up to 30 hours during music playback. In principle, the autonomy figures improved year after year.
But 2010 arrived, and with it came the launch of the iPhone 4. This smart phone still maintained the 3.5 - inch screen size, but incorporated a new resolution: instead of offering 480 x 320 pixels, reaching down to 960 x 640 pixels. This improvement was a slight drag on the growth of autonomy, and the figures of this mobile demonstrate this: up to 300 hours in rest, between 7 and 14 hours in conversation and up to 40 hours while playing music. The autonomy continued to improve, but it did so at an increasingly slow pace.
We went to 2011, and the arrival of the iPhone 4S not only meant a slowdown in the improvement of autonomy, but even caused the autonomy figures to decrease compared to the predecessors of this mobile -something logical if we take into account that we passed a processor mononuclear one of dual - core -. Up to 200 hours in standby, between 8 and 14 hours in conversation and up to 40 hours while playing music. And, in this case, we can also start talking about battery capacities: 1,432 mAh.
We are getting closer and closer to reaching the most recent history of Apple, although we make a stop in 2012. It presents the iPhone 5 and its new features were evident: the screen went on to have a size of four inches, and it brought a resolution established the 1,136 x 640 pixels. The battery capacity reached 1,440 mAh, and the autonomy figures revealed that this mobile offered up to 225 hours of standby, up to eight hours in conversation and up to 40 hours during music playback. In this case, Apple put the batteries - never better said -.
We enter fully into the year 2013. The year of the iPhone 5S (without belittling the iPhone 5C, also released in the same year), a smart phone that incorporated a screen four inches with a resolution of 1,136 x 640 pixels. With its 1,560 mAh of battery capacity, the autonomy reached by this terminal was up to 250 hours in standby, up to ten hours in conversation and up to 40 hours during music playback (identical figures in the case of the iPhone 5C).
And 2014 arrives. We are witnessing the simultaneous launch of two smartphones from the iPhone range: the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. Seven years have passed since the launch of the first iPhone, which we recall offered an autonomy at rest of up to 250 hours… curiously, with its 1,810 mAh battery, the iPhone 6 reaches a range of up to 250 hours at rest (in addition to up to 14 hours in conversation and up to 50 hours while playing music). Of course, we are talking about a smartphone that has nothing to do with the first iPhone: screen 4.7 inches, resolution of 1,334 x 750 pixels, the main camera of eight megapixels, 1 gigabyte of RAM and up to 128 gigabytes of internal memory. The iPhone 6, with screen 5.5 inches with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and battery 2915 mAh, reaches up to 384 hours at rest, up to 24 hours talk time and up to 80 hours during music playback.
The conclusion that we can draw from this small journey through the history of Apple's iPhone changes radically depending on the point of view we use. On the one hand, we can dare to think that Apple has not been able to improve the autonomy of its iPhone at rest in more than seven years of development; On the other hand, we can also dare to think that Apple has been able to maintain the same autonomy at rest by introducing seven years of improvements in technology. The figures we have compiled, however, have no other possible interpretation.
