"Play Store download slow in Xiaomi", "Google Play download slow with WiFi", "Play Store downloads applications very slow"… For some time now, there have been few users who have been reporting that the Play Store, the store of Google apps, very slow download on Xiaomi.
Apparently the download speed is so slow that downloading apps becomes impractical, even with fast WiFi connections or 4G data connections. Far from being a problem related to the router or the Google store itself, the solution is to apply a series of methods in MIUI, Xiaomi's personalization layer.
Since we will make use of options and settings present in all versions of MIUI, the methods that we will see below are compatible with all Xiaomi phones. Xiaomi Mi A1, A2, A3, A2 Lite, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 6 Pro, Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 8, Redmi Note 8 Pro, Mi 8, Mi 9, Mi 9T, Mi 9T Pro, Redmi 5, Redmi 6, Redmi 7, Pocophone F1…
Solution 1: clear the data and cache from the Play Store
The first solution before going through more complex methods is based on clearing the data and cache of the application using the MIUI options.
Within Settings we will go to the Applications section and then we will click on Manage applications until we find Google Play Store. Once we are in the application options, we will click on the Clear data option that will appear in the lower menu and then Clear all data and Clear cache.
Deleting the Google account through the Synchronize section in Settings is another method that is recommended to free the phone from any possibility of failure. Finally we will access the Play Store application and log in again.
Solution 2: connect to the 5G WiFi network or delete the network you are connected to
Another solution that the users of the MIUI forums have provided is based precisely on connecting to the 5G network of the router, which usually generates a name similar to "WLAN_XXX_5G".
If the download problem persists, we can try to eliminate the WiFi network to which we are connected and enter the session data again. We can carry it out from the WiFi section in Settings.
Solution 3: restore the phone by following the following method
The last solution indicated in the Xiaomi support forums is based on restoring the phone following a series of steps somewhat different from the usual method.
From the outset, we will have to remove the micro SD card that is installed in the phone. Before proceeding with the restoration of the device, it is recommended to make a backup copy of all the information that we want to restore later, either through the MIUI options or by connecting a USB cable to the computer.
After this, let's restore the phone in the traditional way in the MIUI settings; specifically in My device / Backup and reset / Delete all data / All files on the phone. If we have a somewhat old version of MIUI, we can find the option in question in Additional settings / Backup and restart / Delete all data. The restoration process, however, can take several minutes.
Once we have reset the phone and entered the Google session data, we will go back to the Settings application until we find the Battery and performance section. In Select applications we will click on the three points shown in the upper right corner and we will select Show system applications.
With the system applications activated, we will search the Google Play Store and access its settings. Within this we will click on Unrestricted or Unrestricted, depending on the MIUI version installed. With that, all the issues related to slow downloading from the Play Store on Xiaomi should have been fixed.
