Google has already announced the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. They are the first mid-range mobiles of the company that arrive to share ground with their older brothers, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. These new terminals have a cheaper price and lower benefits. But… how are they really different? The truth is that they share some characteristics, but there are also many differences. We will discuss them below.
Design: not what it seems
The design might seem identical, but the truth is that this is where we see the most differences. Yes, the rear is the same, but they are not the same construction. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have a rear built in glass, while the new mid-range models have it built in polycarbonate. Of course, the double finish and the non-slip effect of the lower part are maintained. The frames also differ: aluminum for the Pixel 3 and polycarbonate for the Pixel 3a.
On the front we see another difference, especially in the XL model. The Pixel 3 XL has a huge notch in the upper area, where a main speaker and a double camera for selfies are housed. Pixel 3a XL: we see a somewhat more pronounced frame, with a main speaker and a single camera.

Cameras: same sensor, but with some changes
Yes, the Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3 have the same camera. Also the XL model. The Mountain View company has not wanted to waste this 12.2 megapixel Dual Pixel sensor, and has also incorporated it into its mid-range. Therefore, the results are practically similar, since it also has the portrait mode and night mode, which work through artificial intelligence. Of course, the Pixel Visual Core chip that supports the main camera is eliminated here. Therefore, the inference is in the performance of the camera, and perhaps the Pixel 3a does not achieve such spectacular results in the final processing.
The front camera remains at 8 megapixels. Again, a difference: the second sensor is eliminated on the Pixel 3a and 3a XL. Therefore, we will not be able to get wide-angle selfies, as if we can do in the company's high-end. On the other hand, they share camera app and unlimited storage in Google Photos.
screen
The Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL have a 5.6-inch and 6-inch panel respectively. Both with Full HD + resolution and OLED technology. Also, with a format of 18: 9. In the case of the Pixel 3, its screen is 5.5 inches, smaller than the 3a model. Of course, they share resolution and OLED technology. If we compare the Pixel 3a XL with the Pixel 3 XL, we see that the latter has a larger screen: 6.X inches. In addition, with a resolution that goes up to QHD +, OLED technology and a format of 18.5: 9.
Performance and autonomy
Mid-range Pixels have a mid-range processor. Specifically, the Snapdragon 670, an eight-core chip that comes with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. In the case of high-end pixels, they have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. They also share RAM memory: 4 GB and 64 GB of internal storage. Of course, they also have a 128 GB version.
As for the autonomy, that of the Pixel 3a and 3a XL is 3,000 and 3,700 mAh respectively. While the Pixel 3 and 3 XL have 2,915 and 3,430 mAh respectively. The four models with fast charging via USB C, although in the high-end we also have wireless charging. Finally, all of them have Android 9.0 Pie, the latest version of Android that includes the Google Assistant and all the functions.
Prices
Of course, there are differences in prices, and the Pixel 3a are Google's cheapest mobiles. The smallest model is priced at 400 euros, while the XL amounts to 480 euros. In the case of the Gogole Pixel 3, the cheapest version is 850 euros and the Pixel 3 XL goes up to 950 euros.
