With the recent launch of Android 8, many users wonder which phones will update to this new version. Sony is one of the manufacturers that have shown the most interest this year when it comes to launching the update on their devices. We have seen it in the Sony Xperia XZ1 and Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact. Both smartphones were announced at the last IFA in Berlin and came standard with Android 8. Soon other phones will join them and will get Oreo in the coming months.
During the Berlin fair, Sony gave an official list of some of the devices that will get this version. There are some that are discarded, that is, they will not be able to update. Among them we find mobiles like the Sony Xperia Z4 or Sony Xperia M4 Aqua. These are phones that have been around for some time and will stick with previous versions of the platform. Below we show you the Sony models that will have an update to Android 8 Oreo. Also those who are doubtful and those who will not be able to count on the advantages of this new version of the system. See what list yours is on.
Sony phones that will update to Android 8
As we have commented previously, Sony revealed during the IFA in Berlin some of the mobiles that will have Oreo. How could it be otherwise, the chosen terminals are some of the best in its catalog.
- Sony Xperia X
- Sony Xperia X Performance
- Sony Xperia XZ
- Sony Xperia X Compact
- Sony Xperia XZ Premium
- Sony Xperia XA1
- Sony Xperia XA1 Plus
- Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra
- Sony Xperia XZs
Some have recently been announced, such as the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. This device was presented during the month of April of this year with really interesting features. It has a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 3,840 í— 2,160 pixels, which gives a density of 801 dpi. As if this were not enough, it is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 system. In its guts there is room for a Snapdragon 835 processor.

It is the latest beast from Qualcomm with eight cores, built on the 10 nanometer process. It is accompanied by a 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage space (expandable through the use of microSD cards). There is also a 19-megapixel main camera and a 13-megapixel front camera, as well as a 3,230 mAh battery with fast charging.
Other terminals that we see in this list as candidates to update to Android 8 are the Sony Xperia XA1, Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra and Sony Xperia XA1 Plus. This trio was announced last February. The standard version offers a 23 megapixel main camera with hybrid focus and fivex optical zoom. It is one of its strengths. Its screen is 5 inches with HD resolution and presents a metallic design.
The Xperia XA1 Plus already goes up to 5.5 inches with a Full HD resolution. It has an eight-core processor with 4 GB of RAM and a 3,430 milliamp battery with fast charging system. The Xperia XA1 Ultra is the largest of the three. It comes with a 6-inch screen with Full HD resolution. The camera and the processor are maintained, although the battery drops to 2,700 mAh. It is somewhat more restrained than the Plus model.

All three devices came standard with Android 7, but it seems that very soon they will also be able to update to this version. At the moment, Sony has not given an exact date. The update to Android 8 Oreo is likely to take place over the next few weeks and months. In any case, we do not think it will take too long.
Sony phones that could receive Android 8
Sony gave the official list of mobiles that will update to Oreo, but others that could end up having this latest version were left in the pipeline. It is not something we have for sure. It is anyone's guess if Sony will finally give the good news and remove them from older versions. They are as follows:
- Sony Xperia Z5 Premium
- Sony Xperia Z5
- Sony Xperia Z5 Compact
- Sony Xperia E5
- Sony Xperia XA
As you can see among them are the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, the Z5 and Z5 Compact. They are models that already have some time, although their characteristics would allow them to have Android 8. The Xperia Z5 Premium without going any further has a 5.5-inch screen with 4K Ultra HD resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels), Snapdragon 810 processor, eight-core with 3GB of RAM. The main camera has a resolution of 23 megapixels and is very similar to what we find in your most current mobiles. With digital zoom, autofocus and LED flash.

- Sony Xperia M5
- Sony Xperia C5
- Sony Xperia C5 Ultra
