Battery capacity is one of the options we look at when deciding on a device, since the autonomy it offers is an important aspect to enjoy the mobile experience.
We do not want to run out of batteries in the middle of a trip or in a photo shoot or depend on the charger all the time. So we will make your job easier by sharing a ranking of the 10 mobile devices with the best battery that have been launched this year (with some exceptions).
We have focused on those that are available in Spain and some Latin American regions, so you may be missing some important options such as the Samsung Galaxy M30.
We are already halfway through the year, so we already have a varied list of options to create the top ten.
Phones with better battery
We took the GSMArena battery life test as a reference, but we also mentioned other sources so you can see that performance can depend on different factors and settings. For example, you will notice that it is not always the mobile that has the highest mAh (milliamp hour) that will offer greater autonomy.
Three benchmarks have been taken to rate the performance of a battery taking into account the activities of users: web browsing (using a script), video playback (up to 10% battery) and call time with 3G (with automatic screen off enabled) and with the screen setting at 200 nits.
1. Moto G7 Power
If we talk about mobile devices that stand out for their battery capacity, the first option that comes to mind is Moto G7 Power. It is one of the most powerful proposals of this year with a 5000 mAH battery with ultra fast TurboPower charging.
According to the specifications that the company has shared, the battery is designed to offer a range of up to 60 hours on a single charge. And thanks to TurboPower technology you can charge up to 9 hours of battery in 15 minutes.
But going to the test, the actual battery performance results based on the GSMArena settings are:
- 21: 45 hours of web browsing
- 23: 58 hours of video playback
- 42:52 hours of conversation
Although it will depend on the configurations of each user or the way you use it, the results are amazing. For example, in the test conducted by Tom's Guide surfing the web (at 150 nits of screen brightness) the Moto G7 Power provided a range of about 15 hours and 35 minutes.
2. Xiaomi Mi Max 3
We are going to make an exception with this Xiaomi proposal, which was launched in July 2018, since it offers a battery of no less than 5,500 mAh.
In its presentation, the company mentioned that charging can offer up to 17 hours of video playback, 10 hours of continuous play and up to 233 hours of music playback. Figures that resemble the test results:
- 17:59 hours of web browsing
- 15:49 playing videos
- 30:09 hours of conversation
Other tests that have been carried out, for example, the one shared by NotebookCheck have achieved up to 22 hours of autonomy on a single charge.
3. ASUS ZenFone 6
Asus Zenfone 6, launched in May, has a 5000 mAH battery with fast charging 4.0.
Asus mentions that users will be able to get up to 2 days of uninterrupted use, 26 hours of standby, 21 hours of WiFi browsing and 33.3 hours of 3G talk on a charge.
In testing by TechRadar, the Zenfone 6 lost 11% charge while playing 90 minutes of video at full brightness. And in the Tom's Guide navigation test it achieved an autonomy of 15: 1 hours in web browsing.
Going back to our benchmark test, the results are:
- 36:22 hours of calls
- 15:42 hours of web browsing
- 16:07 hours of video playback
4. Xiaomi Redmi Note 7
The Redmi Note 7, launched in January, offers a 4000 mAH battery with 18 W fast charging.
Redmi says in its specifications that a battery charge can yield up to 251 minutes of standby time, 23 hours of calls, 13 hours of video playback and 7 hours of gaming.
On the other hand, if we take the Device Specifications evaluations as a reference, the performance margin would be up to 10:12 hours of intensive web browsing, 11:28 hours of video playback (at 1080p at 30 fps) and 6:43 hours of games.
And following the metric that we replicate in each mobile on the list, the results are:
- 32:35 hours of calls
- 14:04 hours of web browsing
- 14:12 hours of video playback
5. Huawei Mate 20 X
Another exception to this list is the Huawei Mate 20X with its 5000mAh battery and HUAWEI SuperCharge.
Thanks to this super fast charge you can reach 100% battery in 100 minutes or up to 47% in half an hour.
Trusted Review did some spot tests on battery performance sharing some interesting data, for example, watching Netflix (with 50% screen brightness) they noticed that the load dropped about 7 to 8% per hour, and up to 20% with PUBG games.
On the other hand, the GSM Arena test obtained these results:
- 28:49 hours of conversation
- 15:32 hours of web browsing
- 17:56 hours of video playback
6. Oppo Reno 10x zoom
Opp Reno 10x zoom was launched in April with 4,065 mAh with 20 W VOOC 3.0 fast charge.
SlashGear ran some tests to test the battery capacity by doing some common user activities. After 19 hours of normal use and 7 hours between Netflix and Hulu, they were still 58% charged.
And to verify how powerful the fast charging technology is, they connected the mobile with 25% and in 47 minutes they obtained a full recharge.
On the other hand, our reference indicates:

7. Honor 20 Pro
This mobile device, launched in May, has a 4,000 mAh battery and the plus of 22.5 W fast charging. You can get up to 50% in half an hour.
Honor says that this mobile can offer up to 141 hours of music, 19 hours of music playback and 29 hours of 3G calls.
And if we want more specific data, we can take into account the mini-test they carried out in TechRadar to test the performance of the battery. The team noticed that by playing a video for 90 minutes with Wi-Fi activated and full brightness, the battery under 16% of its charge.
8. Samsung Galaxy A70
It was presented in March with a 4,500 mAh battery as one of its strengths. And the bonus of the super fast charge at 25 W that can provide up to 42% in 30 minutes.
For reference, Samsung specifies that you can get up to 14 hours of 3G web browsing, 24 hours of video playback, 20 hours of 3G talk, and up to 128 hours of audio.
Data that matches these results:
9. Samsung Galaxy M20
This Samsung proposal was one of the first to arrive this year with its 5000 mAh battery and fast charging.
Based on the company's specifications, it can offer up to 17 hours of video playback, 101 hours of audio, 29 hours in talk mode, and 17 hours of 4G web browsing.
In the tests carried out by NotebookCheck, Samsung Galaxy M20 managed to provide an autonomy of about 15 hours of continuous navigation through script, being well below the Moto G7 Power despite having the same amount of mAh.
And going back to our reference, the figures are:
10. Motorola Moto G7 Play
Moto G7 Play, presented in February, is far behind in its autonomy proposal with its 3,000 mAh battery. However, the test results of the test are impressive. So if you are looking for a cheap mobile with good battery performance, here you have an option.
It has fast Turbo Charge charging, although the charging process may feel too slow compared to the other devices. For example, if the charger is 5 W it will take half an hour to reach approximately 22%, so it will be 2 hours for a full charge.
However, the battery performs well. TechRadar mentions that their 90 minute video test only decreased load by 14%. And based on our benchmark test, the results are:
An interesting combination of proposals and data to take into account when choosing your next mobile based on the autonomy that it can offer you according to your needs.
