iOS 14 is right around the corner. The new version of the operating system for the iPhone has already been leaked on occasion, but we hope to see great news that has not yet been revealed. In this article we have compiled everything we hope to see in iOS 14, from improvements in applications, to news in services, through a possible name change and all the models that could be compatible.
Widgets in iOS 14
One of the most anticipated news of iOS 14, and the one that has been leaked the most. The widgets in iOS 14 could completely change how we see the iPhone home screen, showing a more intuitive design, with shortcuts to the main application options and with very curious functions.
For example, we can put a weather widget, so we can see the weather without having to enter the app. Also a widget for the 'Home' app. So we can control our devices quickly.
These Widgets would be adaptable in size, so we could resize them on the screen and the icons of iOS 14 would adapt, moving to another home screen if necessary. Of course, by including these Widgets Apple could eliminate the side feed.
A joint subscription
Something that has also been leaked on many occasions: Apple could present a joint subscription to all its services, so that the user can save some money if he is a subscriber to Apple's setraming platforms and services. For example, that we have the opportunity to contract Apple Music, Apple TV + and Apple Arcade for 15 euros per month, while contracting these services separately would be about 20 euros.
We will have to see if this option arrives with iOS 14, iPad OS and the other versions of the operating system.
The ability to set default apps
Again, also highly commented on in different leaks. A t present there is no possibility of choosing other third party applications as default. For example, that the email manager is not the Mail app, but Gmail. The same with Safari, the messages app and other Apple applications. With iOS 14, the possibility of choosing which applications we want to configure as default could come. This will be very useful, especially in the browser. With this option we can choose which browser we want to open a link, do a quick search, etc.
We do not know how this configuration will be carried out in iOS 14, but it is likely that it is as it already happens in Android: the first time we click on a link it asks us with which apps we want to open it. We can choose to always open the links with that browser or only open it once.
New wallpapers
A minor change, but one that will also make iOS 14 look different: not only will new wallpapers arrive, but they will be customizable. We can choose the level of blur of the background so that they look like gradient tones, choose what type of backgrounds we want etc. It is even likely that third-party funds can be downloaded easily.
Translator integrated in some apps
Google Chrome integrates a translator. This allows us to instantly translate web pages that are in another language. In Safari it can be done, but through third-party shortcuts. In iOS 14 Safari could integrate a translator so that we can read all those pages that are not in our language. Of course, we still do not know who the provider will be, since Apple does not have its own translation service, and it is unlikely that they will do so through Google Translate.
Improvements in some applications
In iOS there are many applications that are not updated through the App Store, but are renewed when there is an update to the operating system. Among these apps we find: Podcast, Mail, Apple Music, Notes, Shortcuts, Maps, Clock etc. With iOS 14 we expect slight renovations in these apps. For example, in the Podcast app a section called 'For You' is expected, where they will recommend podcasts related to what we listen to.
In apps like Mail, Apple Music etc, we could also see new options, as well as improvements and bug fixes.
iOS would change its name
iOS could be renamed iPhone OS, according to the latest rumors. A move that makes a lot of sense, since Apple's other products are named after the operating system by the name of the devices. Macs and Macbooks have macOS, iPads have iPadOS. Also the Apple Watch, which has WatchOS. Even Apple TV has its own operating system: tvOS. Therefore, that iOS is renamed iPhone OS makes a lot of sense. Of course, iOS is already supposed to be a diminutive of iPhone OS, but at the marketing level it doesn't look so good compared to Apple's other systems.
An extensive list of iPhones that will update
Do you have an iPhone with iOS 13? You will have iOS 14. It's that easy. The latest leaks show that iOS 14 will be compatible with all mobiles that have been able to update to iOS 13. Among them, the iPhone 6s or the first generation iPhone SE. Of course, also all iPhone with notch, such as iPhone X, iPhone XR etc.
