Android 8.1 Oreo is the latest version of Google's operating system. It includes very, very cool news, as well as useful functions and features. There is no doubt that Android 8.1 Oreo is what we all want on our mobile, but in just under a year, we will see a new version. We are talking about Android 9 P, a version that is still far away, but about which we have begun to think. The truth is that Oreo includes the latest features on the market, such as Picture in Picture, multi-window, improvements in notifications etc. But we have gone through five things that are not in Oreo, and we wish they were in Android P.
Choose between app drawer or desktop icons
There is no doubt that Google has worked hard to make Android have an intuitive and easy-to-use interface. Now the application drawer is much more organized, you can find an app more easily and access to access is very practical and simple. Achieving, therefore, an effect of simplicity in the system. But we believe that it is not enough. Some customization layers such as Samsung or LG already include this option. We talk about the possibility of choosing between the application drawer or all the icons on the desktop. And we would like such an option on Android P.
The option would consist of a small box in the interface settings menu. This option could give us to choose whether to keep the application drawer, or to delete it and leave all the icons on the desktop. Little by little Google is changing the design of its operating system to make it more functional, we will see if we finally see this option.
Natively dark theme
We are passionate about the dark theme, on mobile devices with an AMOLED screen it consumes less battery, can look more visually beautiful and gives a different touch to the interface. Sadly, there is no dark mode natively in Android Oreo. The Pixel Launcher changes the drawer background and other elements by default when we put a dark wallpaper, but other devices, unless they include it in their personalization layer, do not incorporate it.
We would like an option in settings that allows us to choose between the default mode and a dark mode. To change all the default applications to darker tones.
Send content to a TV natively
Nowadays it is possible to send content to a TV on Android, but we have to use different services and accessories. As well as specific televisions that allow us to send content through an application. What we would like to see in Android P is a feature that allows you to stream from your mobile to the TV by pressing just one button. No need for accessories or cables. Additionally, each application could have its own button to submit content.
Add shortcuts to the lock screen
Google shows two shortcuts on the lock screen. One in each corner. In the left area, we find the button that activates the Google Assistant. While, in the right area, the button that opens the camera is located. In Android 9 P we would like an option that allows us to change or add icons with shortcuts. For example, a shortcut to the WhatsApp app, or to the flashlight application.
Lock apps by fingerprint or pin natively
This feature can be used on virtually any version of Android. We talk about the possibility of adding a PIN or fingerprint unlocking to an application . The interesting thing would be to see this natively on Android. As a security setting that allows us to have our applications closed.
We would like to see an option in the security settings of the device, where we can choose the applications that we want to protect with a pin or fingerprint. Some devices like the OnePlus 5 already have this option natively.
Although it is most likely that Android 9 P is loaded with news, and includes a new design, we hope that these features are present. Would you add any more to the list?
