Orange today announced the launch of the new 5G mobile network technology in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Malaga. From now on, Orange private and business customers, as long as they are in the coverage areas of those cities and have a 5G smartphone, will be able to enjoy this technology at no additional cost over the contracted rate.
As a result of this launch, from today all Orange rates become 5G. In addition, to offer all the options to its customers to enjoy 5G connectivity, the operator has expanded its 5G mobile catalog to reach twelve different models that allow you to enjoy this technology.
Coverage areas
Orange is the Spanish operator with the most spectrum (100 MHz) in the 3.6-3.8 GHz band, the most interesting for the development of the new ultra-fast mobile broadband technology, after a total investment of 152 million euros.
In this first phase of implementation, 5G technology in the Orange network will be available, on the 3.6-3.8 GHz band, mainly in the most central areas of Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Malaga. The idea of the operator is to achieve a coverage of about 30% in each of these cities. In the coming months, coverage will be expanded and thus adding new cities to 5G coverage.
More specifically, in Madrid, 5G coverage will be concentrated mainly inside the M-30, although there will be neighborhoods and districts abroad that will also be able to enjoy 5G coverage. Among them will be Hortaleza, Ciudad Lineal, San Blas, Puente de Vallecas, Aluche and Campamento. In Pozuelo de Alarcón, 5G coverage will also be available.
In Barcelona, 5G coverage will be concentrated mainly to the south of the Diagonal, although it will extend to some districts such as Gràcia, Clot, Sant Martí and the Meridiana area. 5G coverage will also be available in part of the Free Zone (Mercabarna).
In Valencia, 5G coverage will be present in a good part of the municipality, from Beniferri, Benimaclet and Benicalap to the north to the line that marks the V30 to the south.
Regarding Seville, coverage will be mainly concentrated in the center (the interior of the old wall, providing coverage in areas on both banks of the Guadalquivir, both in Triana and Los Remedios and in the Old Town) as well as on the Isla de la Cartuja.
Finally, in Malaga the coverage will extend from the Malagueta beach to the Cádiz road, following the coastline, covering the historic center of the city to Martiricos. Following the axis of Avenida de Andalucía, coverage will extend to the Teatinos campus.
The 5G network will increase the speed and stability of mobile connections, thus opening up a world of possibilities.
