Since the appearance of Android 7 N ougat in the Google Pixel we have seen how the operating system slowly opened up to other brands and models. But how do you know exactly which ones and since when?
It is difficult to keep track of all, however, we have decided to make an extensive and complete list of the terminals that have already received or plan to receive Android 7 shortly, and when possible, include a date. We have focused on three of the most consumed brands in the mid and high range: Samsung, Huawei and Motorola.
Samsung
The Korean brand has been busy since late 2016 offering Android 7 Nougat to its devices. Let's see the status of this update for all its terminals launched since the end of 2015. Keep in mind that many of the dates that we offer here have been provided by internal Samsung sources, but not all of them are one hundred percent confirmed.
Galaxy A Family
- Galaxy A3 (2016): since June 12, users of this mid-range can update the operating system to Android 7 Nougat.
- Galaxy A5 (2016): Android 7 Nougat arrived on the A5 on May 3.
- Galaxy A7 (2016): The largest of the original Galaxy A does not yet have Android 7, but it is expected that from July 31 it will receive an update.
Interestingly, the 2017 Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 did not go on sale with Android 7 by default, but Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Unfortunately, we have not been able to get an exact date for the update, although it is expected imminently. In several lies they have been talking about the second half of 2017.
Galaxy J Family
- Galaxy J5: Samsung's most successful mid-range still continues with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but its update to Android 7 Nougat is expected on October 1.
- Galaxy J5 (2016): For its replacement, the 2016 version, its update is expected a little earlier, on September 18.
- Galaxy J7: On August 18, Android 7 Nougat will supposedly arrive at the largest of the original Galaxy Js.
The new generation of Galaxy J, the Galaxy J3, J5 and J7 from 2017, already arrive with Android 7 Nougat installed by default, which is why we do not include them in the list.
Galaxy S Family
- Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge: Since May 3, Android 7 Nougat is available on both terminals.
- Galaxy S6 Edge Plus: Since April 2017, this specific replacement for the Galaxy Note 6 already has Android 7.
- Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge: Since March 1, the last Samsung model to differentiate between Edge model and normal model, received Android 7 Nougat.
Huawei
We now come to Huawei. The Chinese brand does not have as many models as Samsung, so its list is a bit more concise. In addition, they all already have Android 7 and EMUI 5 available, so the calendar would be already closed.
- Huawei Mate 8: Huawei's great phone has Android 7 Nougat since January 2017.
- Huawei Nova / Nova Plus: Since December 2016, both devices have Android 7.
- Huawei P9 / P9 Lite / P9 Plus: in January of this year the updates for Android 7 were released for this pioneer phone in the dual camera, its large and small version.
Both the Huawei Mate 9 and the Huaei P10 and P10 Plus were launched from the beginning with Android 7 Nougat, so we do not count them on the list either.
Motorola
The brand acquired by Lenovo also has a smaller catalog than Samsung, but it has been in charge of updating all its models, and its most recent catalog already enjoys Android nougat:
- Moto G4 / G4 Plus: As of March 8, the phone is updated to Android 7 Nougat.
- Moto G4 Play: At the beginning of June, you received the latest Android 7 update.
- Moto Z: This phone has been running Android 7 since November 21, 2016. This update was also offered for the Moto Z Play and Moto Z Force.
- Moto X Play: Like the G4 Play, in early June it received the desired update to Android 7.
- Moto X Force: Since the end of May, the X Force already has Android 7.
- Moto X Style: At the beginning of July, Android 7 Nougat began to reach the Spanish Moto X Style.
Both the Moto G5, G5 Plus and the Z2 and Z2 Play went on sale directly with Android 7 Nougat as the default operating system, that is why they do not appear on the list.
So now you know, if you have Huawei or Motorola phones from the end of 2015 onwards, you will have secure access to Android 7. If you have Samsung phones, in some cases you will have to wait a few months, but in many other models you already have it available.
