LED color notifications may have taken their first step toward extinction. Smart Glow is the new system that the Korean brand has proposed to send visual notifications to users without having to turn on the phone. In principle, it would not be a replacement, I know that both systems would coexist, with the owner of the smartphone in charge of customizing the service in question.
With Smart Glow notifications will go from the front of the phone to the back. Specifically, it would be a halo or circle that would surround the camera and that, like the classic light notification system, would have different shades depending on the type of application that is warning us. The selection of the alarms can be chosen manually. Low battery warning, emails, instant messages, missed calls…
Second flash for selfies
Despite the fact that today the vast majority of selfies or selfies have been taken with the front camera thanks to the mirror effect of the screen, the quality camera continues and will continue to be the rear. Therefore, this halo of light will be in perfect synchronization with the camera software so, in case of detecting a face, this circle will light up to give an extra contribution of luminosity to the selfies. A less direct and powerful type of lighting than the flash that will provide much more elegant photos.
The first Samsung model to incorporate this feature will be the Samsung Galaxy J2, a phone that will be launched in the coming months exclusively in India. At the moment, Samsung's Smart Glow is something presumably experimental, since there is no official confirmation from the Korean company that any of the company's flagships will have this new notification system.
Experiment or bet on the future?
The Korean brand has not made a great presentation of a new function somewhat novel. And it is that despite the unusualness of this function and that no one from the competition has opted for an alternative model to the notification system in the front by LED light, the Smart Glow does not stop having an obvious handicap. And it is that in this way we have to have the phone face down to see the notifications.
If we have the phone in silence, and we have it face up, we will have no way of receiving the notification unless we turn on the screen. Otherwise, if we decide to disconnect for a while and put the phone upside down, we will not be able to do it, since the colors of the halo will inform us of the notifications that reach our phone.
Convert this circle in a second light flash based light dimmer and indirect if that seems like interesting feature for those who use the phone regularly to take pictures. Both of oneself and of a group of friends or a short shot in general. Since lifetime rear flash results cause somewhat burnt photos.
