At the beginning of the month, Xiaomi was looking for tester among Xiaomi Mi 9 users to test MIUI dynamics based on Android Q.
So it became the device of choice to be part of the beta program for this new version of MIUI. Not all stakeholders were going to qualify for the program and it was only geared towards users from China.
Even so, this tester program will serve all users who will soon be able to have a version on their own devices. Xiaomi now officially announces that it is launching the MIUI beta based on Android Q for Xiaomi Mi 9.
MIUI first impressions based on Android Q
Some users have already shared some details of the beta, as mentioned in Xda. On the other hand, Zhang Guoquan, director of Xiaomi's software, systems and telephony department, has shown some details in captures, as you can see in the image:
There are no changes in the interface, and as we can see the pre-installed apps from Google do not appear, since it is a Chinese version.
On the other hand, the screenshots they have shared show that it offers a new launcher and a whole new kit of icons and widgets. The notification system is also improved since it allows filtering those that are not important to group them in their own section.
Location controls are also enhanced by allowing users to configure the period of time that an app will have access to this data. Also, any permission in execution such as camera, location or microphone will not go unnoticed as it will be seen in the notification bar.
Privacy and digital wellness features
Let's remember that one of the main benefits of this version is to integrate a set of functions focused on privacy. And following this line of features designed for the user, the Digital Wellbeing functions are added with all the customizable options and statistics to control the time we spend on the mobile.
For now, this MIUI beta based on Android Q is limited to testers in China, but it is possible that the program will be extended to other users. On the other hand, let's remember that Xiaomi has already announced that several of its mobile devices will receive Android 10 Q in the last quarter of 2019, as we mentioned in a previous article.
