Flexible mobiles are the novelty at this Mobile World Congress, all the companies that have invested in this technology are presenting them or at least teaching them. We have already seen the proposals of Samsung with its Samsung Galaxy Fold or Huawei with the Huawei Mate X. Now it is Oppo's turn to face the list left by these two terminals, yes, this terminal for the moment is a prototype. Oppo wants to show that they have also been working on this technology, but at the moment they are not comfortable with what they have achieved.
Oppo, flexible mobile prototype
Oppo's own vice president has been in charge of publicizing this terminal. He has done so with the publication of several images on the Asian social network Weibo. In these images we can see a terminal that reminds us of the Huawei Mate X design. It is possible that this is the final design since from the images the terminal seems to work correctly. There are no specifications at the moment, but we can almost safely assume that the screen of this terminal will be OLED.
These panels are the ones that have made the arrival of folding terminals a reality. By having a construction that does not need back lighting to emit the image and its flexibility, it allows them to be integrated into a chassis with a hinge that facilitates folding. E l screen size is another thing that escapes us, but images can see that the less we will have three different size screens. The main one or the one that we will use more will have an elongated format, while the secondary one will be somewhat narrower and finally the screen that is generated when the terminal is displayed will be almost like that of a small tablet.
Despite being a prototype, this Oppo terminal seems ready to go on the market. You can see the double camera positioned on the side of the screen frame, next to them is the dual-tone LED flash. The folding system is a hinge placed in the center of the screen, with it we can fold the phone at will. Oppo did not want to indicate the operation or the technology in which it was inspired to create this hinge like other manufacturers.
Oppo has communicated to the dam their thoughts about folding phones and more specifically their prototype, in addition to the reason why they have not decided to bring it to the market:
Over the last few years, we have been working on developing different product lines and future options; OPPO has a demanding definition and full of high expectations for what the company calls a perfect product. We are exploring the best design and technology products to meet the demand of our consumers. But for OPPO, our current folding phone does not meet the definition of the perfect product, ready to meet the demand that our consumers really want.
At the moment this terminal is one more unknown. It is true that at least it is one of the closest prototypes to come true, but if they have not wanted to advertise it as another product it means that at the moment it is not quite ready to compete with its rivals. We hope to see you sooner rather than later, because foldable phones are going to be talked about in 2019.
