We already anticipated it a couple of days ago, and today it has become official: the Japanese company Sony has just begun to distribute the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update on Sony Xperia Z2s around the world. The update finally responds to the numbering of 23.0.1.A.0.167, and it is also currently being rolled out on the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. This new update includes support for the PS4 Remote Controller, a new option to customize sound settings for different headsets, improvements to the WALKMAN app, and minor bug fixes.
The most interesting novelty of the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for the Sony Xperia Z2 is, without a doubt, the compatibility with the PS4 Remote Controller application. Through this application it is possible to play the PlayStation 4 using the Xperia Z2 (or the Xperia Z2 Tablet) as a screen, so that it is not essential to be in front of a television when playing the console. This novelty is already available in the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, and it only remains to know the starting price (probably between 20 and 30 euros) and the launch date that Sonyplans to set for the official accessory that allows you to attach the mobile or tablet to the DualShock 4 controller of the PS4.
Beyond that change, Android 4.4.4 KitKat also means other improvements for the Sony Xperia Z2 and the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. For example, one of the novelties that users will find is the ULTRA Stamina Mode (within the battery configuration), which allows reducing battery consumption at times when additional autonomy is needed. The Camera application has also been improved, as it now includes many of the camera modes that the Sony Xperia Z3 incorporates as standard. And let's not forget about the new option to record the screen(located in the menu accessed by holding down the lock button on the screen), which allows you to record a video of the interface as if it were a screenshot.
The update is currently being distributed worldwide, and it is only a matter of hours before it finishes rolling out in all countries. To update the Sony Xperia Z2 to Android 4.4.4 KitKat there are two options: perform the update through the PC Companion program, using the computer, or follow the following steps from the mobile:
- We enter the Settings application.
- We access the " About the device " section.
- Click on the option " Software update ".
- We wait for the mobile to detect the latest version available and, in the event that a file with number 23.0.1.A.0.167 is shown to us, we proceed to download and install it following the instructions that the mobile will show us.
