Samsung could add to its next flagship, the brand new Samsung Galaxy S5, a technology that would allow the user to manage some functions of the phone using head gestures. It is not the first time that Samsung has worked with gesture technologies for its smartphones . With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 in March last year, the Korean introduced Air View and Art Gesture for the first time to perform certain functions by passing the hand over the phone, without touching the screen; o Smart Pause, to pause video playbackwhen the user stops looking or falls asleep. These are native functions that are only found in this device and that distinguish, in some way, the current Samsung flagship from the other smartphones that we can already find on the market.
The fact is that the Sammobile medium has just released the news that the Korean has submitted a patent application that intends to take another step in the control of their smartphones through gestures. The patent listing describes such interesting functions as nods and winks that will serve to carry out very specific functions on board the terminal. It would be interesting, for example, if a gesture with the head to the left allows us to return to the last page we have visited with the browser and to the right, it takes us to the next.
The same patent informs us about another gesture that would also help us to carry out certain functions. By detecting the movement that the user makes with the head, the captured images could be divided into several sections for later editing or specific functions could be executed without having to touch the terminal at any time. To all this, it seems that the registration of this patent would include a whole series of advanced gesture controls that have not been fully specified here. But, you wonder, what about the application of these technologies to the Samsung Galaxy S5 to come?
Well, you might think that the publication date of this patent (just two days ago it came to the fore) is too recent for these features to be integrated so quickly into the next flagship of the firm. We must not lose sight of the fact that the device could be presented in April of this same 2013. However, we know that the patent was already registered in July 2013. So it would not be surprising if the Samsung Galaxy S5 took part or all of these intelligent functions for a walk.
The latest information we have about this release come from the vice president of Samsung, Lee Young Hee, who told Bloomberg said the coming-star next device Samsung would take place in April. In turn, he indicated that the phone could be covered with a plastic casing and metallic materials, a detail that those users who are especially obsessed with the design of this terminal will appreciate. Finally, it seems that the firm is seriously studying the possibility of integrating a fingerprint sensor or an iris scanner into the equipment that would allow it compete head-on with the iPhone 6 to come.
