2011 is a year that South Korean Samsung will remember for many reasons. But without a doubt, it would be inseparable from a mobile, the Samsung Galaxy S2. And it is that the flagship of the firm in the smartphone segment has broken all the forecasts projected by the company.
Let us remember that the objectives that the company set for this model in 2011 were limited, in principle, to surpass the sales of its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S, a mobile that managed to break the barrier of ten million devices sold; the second edition pulverized that brand in a few months after its launch, and today the galactic couple observes through the rear-view mirror how the milestone of 30 million units sold is moving away behind them .
For this reason, as well as for the configuration of a solid Android-based mid-range, Samsung has delivered very remarkable results in its accounts for the third fiscal quarter, which place it as the first global manufacturer of smartphones and second company in sales of mobile phones, second only to the Finnish Nokia.
And it is that only during the third quarter managed revenues of 41,270 million dollars (more than 29,000 million euros, at the current exchange rate), which represents a growth of three percent compared to the same quarter in the previous year.
In the line of smartphones, the increase in sales was between twelve and fourteen percent above the previous quarter (the growth experienced in the company's global mobile phone sales was between six and eight percent).
Against this background, the forecasts that Samsung raises for the last quarter of the year go through not lowering its guard, and in its estimates it trusts to maintain the upward trend with the help of a powerful and attractive high-end, which is represented in the Samsung triad. Galaxy S2 (in its improved version for LTE markets), Samsung Galaxy Note and Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
On the other hand, they hope to continue expanding their share of tablets with the global launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Samsung Galaxy 7.0. In addition, they also aim to raise the bar for their mid-range and upper-middle-range smartphones with the Galaxy M and Galaxy Y lines, as well as the native line based on the Bada platform, with the Samsung Wave Y as the main argument.
