With just a few days to go into June, Samsung has just rolled out the May security update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The update, with build number N950FXXU3CRE5 and a size of around 700 MB, is available via OTA. This means that it is possible to download it directly. The normal thing is that you receive a pop-up message on the screen of your device advising you of its arrival. If not, you can check it yourself from the "Settings", "Software update" section and clicking on "Download updates manually".
Although 700 MB is a considerable size for a security update, the truth is that you should not be fooled by the size. As reported, it does not bring anything but the latest security fixes. In any case, it is very important that you install it once you receive it on your Note 8. Specifically, the May security patch includes fixes for six critical vulnerabilities discovered in Android. Fixes are also available for seven vulnerabilities that affect only Samsung devices.
What to do before updating
You already know that before updating the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with the May security patch, you need to take into account a number of things. The first thing you have to do is a backup of all the data and files that you have stored in the terminal. As if you installed a new version of Android, this is very necessary in case something happens during the process. Nothing necessarily has to happen, but you already know that it is always better to be cautious.
Also, once you have the security update available, do not forget to have the device with a sufficient level of charge before downloading it. It is recommended that it has more than 50% autonomy. Also, remember to do it in a place with a stable and fast WiFi connection. Avoid doing it connected to public WiFis or with your own 3G or LTE data connection.
As we say, the rollout is happening right now, so the May security update could arrive on your Note 8 in the next few days or weeks.
