Last February Samsung unveiled its first folding mobile. Dubbed the Samsung Galaxy Fold, the device did not see the light of day due to different problems in some test units. After several delays, the company has finally set an official date. The terminal will land on the market next September, that is, in just a few months.
Following the statements of DJ Koh, CEO and President of Samsung's IT & Mobile division, the imminent launch of the Galaxy Fold seemed closer than ever. The executive assured earlier this month that the manufacturer had already identified the problems and was working to fix them. Basically, the problems that the original Samsung Galaxy Folds presented were centered on the screen, which began to fail during use, one part turning black while the other blinked, or directly did not respond.
Some of the journalists who tested the phone claimed that they removed a protective plastic from the screen after receiving the device. However, according to the company, this sheet was part of the panel structure and should not be removed. In any case, other journalists commented that they did not remove that layer and also presented these failures.
The truth is that this problem has forced Samsung to paralyze the launch of its folding phone during all this time. A time that will culminate next September. As that time approaches, the company has shared on its blog the list of changes after the appropriate modifications, summarizing them in four sections.
- The protective layer has been extended beyond the bezel, making it clear that it is an integral part of the display structure and should not be removed.
- The top and bottom of the hinge area have been reinforced with new protection caps.
- Additional metallic layers have been included under the panel to reinforce its protection.
- The gap between the hinge and the body of the Galaxy Fold has been reduced
Samsung has also confirmed that it has improved the usability and the software experience, optimizing more services and applications to the equipment configuration. The Asian firm is currently doing the last tests to bring the Galaxy Fold to some markets in September. At the moment, they have not specified which ones. We imagine we will have more details at the time of launch.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold will not be a cheap phone. Its price is expected to exceed 1,500 euros. Not only because of its design and exclusivity, but also because it offers a set of outstanding features. Among them we can mention a 7.3-inch Dynamic AMOLED main screen with QXGA resolution and 4.2: 3 format. The one on the cover is a 4.6-inch Super AMOLED with HD + resolution. The terminal also includes a triple camera of 16 + 12 + 12 megapixels, as well as an eight-core processor accompanied by 12 GB of RAM and a storage of 512 GB. Otherwise it also equips a 4,380 mAh battery with fast charging and wireless charging, or Android 9 operating system under the customization layer of the Samsung ONE UI company.
