The Samsung Galaxy Fold, far from being a failed project of the South Korean company, still continues to talk about among specialized and not so specialized media. Last week it was announced that the company could have solved the Galaxy Fold's screen problems thanks to a new system that includes the plastic protector of the phone in Samsung's own AMOLED panel. Weeks later, a new patent was leaked that revealed a folding phone of up to 13 inches. The news now comes from the hand of a new patent registered by Samsung itself that warns of the design of the brand's next folding phone, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, with a very different appearance from the original Galaxy Fold and more similar to the Huawei Mate X.
Samsung Galaxy Fold 2: a single sliding screen in 16: 9 format
This is reflected in new patents registered by Samsung and filtered by Patently Mobile this morning. As we can see in the images of the company's terminal, the new Samsung folding phone could have a single screen in 16: 9 format.
The novelty of the terminal, beyond the format of the screen, is the mechanism that it includes to fold the screen, with a design similar to that of the Huawei Mate X. The main difference with respect to the latter is based on the mechanism that it would use the terminal would have a lane through which the size of the screen would be expanded in tablet format. The operation of the same would be similar to that of the slide phones of yesteryear, although it will be necessary to see how it takes shape without affecting the integrity of the panel.
Another novelty of the phone compared to the original Galaxy Fold has to do with the locking mechanism that the folding mechanism itself includes. By having a sliding rail, the terminal would use a “clamp” to fix the position of the phone when sliding on the track.
As we usually warn in these cases, since the leak is nothing more than a patent registered by Samsung, it is likely that the final design of the new Galaxy Fold 2 will differ from that shown in the images, if it is finally launched on the market. Be that as it may, it is best to wait for new leaks to verify that indeed, the Galaxy Fold 2 is in the development phase.
