- What we will need: a 5G tariff and a 5G mobile
Vodafone, along with Huawei and Ericsson, is being one of the telephone companies that is betting the most on the implementation of 5G in Spain and the rest of the European countries. Although at the moment there are only some 5G mobiles on the market, the network is already operational in several of the most important cities in Spain. This morning the company announced 5G roaming in no less than 55 European cities, including several in Spain if you reside outside the peninsula.
This is how Vodafone's 5G roaming remains in Europe and Spain
Roaming, better known as data roaming in the language of Cervantes, is a concept used in mobile technology that refers to the possibility of using our operator's mobile networks beyond the physical barriers of our country of origin within of a certain community, which in this case corresponds to Europe. The meaning of roaming lies in the fact that we can make use of these networks without any extra cost compared to the original cost of the rate that we have contracted, as was customary to date.
Roaming is generally only available on 2G, 3G and 4G networks, at least so far. It was this morning when Vodafone announced the availability of the first 5G roaming at a European level in more than 50 cities, of which 15 are within Spain.

What we will need: a 5G tariff and a 5G mobile
As with 4G roaming, in order to enjoy 5G networks in the rest of European countries we will have to contract some of the 5G rates that Vodafone currently offers in its 2019 portfolio. No rates with 4G or 4G +.
All Vodafone rates compatible with 5G.
As of today, Vodafone has up to five different rates compatible with fifth-generation networks:
- Mini Mobile Rate (5G data limited with 3 GB, 5 in promotion)
- Extra Mobile Rate (5G data limited with 6 GB, 10 in promotion)
- Unlimited Mobile Rate
- Super Unlimited Mobile Rate
- Total Unlimited Mobile Rate
Their price ranges from € 19.99 per month for the Mini rate to € 49.99 for the Total rate. As for mobile phones compatible with 5G networks, we can currently find the following:
- Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G
- Samsung Galaxy S10 5G
- LG ThinQ V50 5G
- Huawei Mate 20 X 5G
If we meet both conditions, we can make use of 5G networks on our phone as long as we activate the Data Roaming option within the phone's Settings; more specifically in the Mobile Networks section.
