Xiaomi has finally unveiled the roadmap of its new mid-range models for this 2020. First was the Redmi Note 9S, a phone that comes to renew the Redmi Note 8 and 8T. Now the company launches in Spain and in the rest of the world the Redmi Note 9 and 9 Pro models that it presented last March. The first replaces the Redmi Note 8, while the second becomes the successor to the Note 8 Pro. Will they be worthy successors to the Note 8 series? With the price on paper, they will hardly be able to supply their 2019 bet for the mid-range.

The hole in the screen is a trend
The novelties in design come from the hand of the screen format. The design of both devices is based on a panel with a 6.53 and 6.67-inch screen hole. Both have a resolution of 1,080 points, as well as Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Regarding the back, the appearance of the two phones is practically traced, with a module made up of four cameras and a housing made of glass. Both have P2i splash protection. The fingerprint sensor, by the way, is now located on one of the sides of the chassis.
Mediatek and Qualcomm for the mid-range
As the company already did with the Redmi Note 8 and 8 Pro, Mediatek and Qualcomm are Xiaomi's two options for its two medium ranges. In this case the tables are turned: the cheapest model has a Mediatek processor, the Helio G85, while the Pro model uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor. They are accompanied by 3, 4 and 6 GB of RAM and 64 and 128 GB of internal storage.
The rest of the features are identical in both terminals: 5,020 mAh battery, 18 W fast charge, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5-millimeter port for headphones… And yes, NFC, for the first time in the mid-range of the company if we ignore the launch of the Redmi Note 8T.
Four cameras very similar to each other
So similar that they share three of their sensors. The only difference, at least in technical data, is found in the main sensor. And it is that while the Redmi Note 9 has a 48 megapixel camera, the Pro model raises the resolution to 64 megapixels. The focal aperture of each sensor is f / 1.79 and f / 1.89 respectively.
If we talk about the rest of the sensors, the phones use three cameras of 8, 2 and 2 megapixels. The last sensor is meant to improve bokeh, while the first two feature super wide angle and macro lenses. A priori, we did not find technical differences between the complementary sensors, so the results should not differ from one to the other.
It is time to talk about the front camera. In this case the cameras drink from two sensors of 13 and 16 megapixels respectively. The first has a focal aperture f / 2.25. The second, f / 2.48. Both integrate face unlock functions to unlock the phone with the face through software.
Price and availability of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 and Note 9 Pro in Spain
The global presentation of Xiaomi has helped us to know the price and availability of the different devices in the rest of the countries outside of China. The telephones will begin to be distributed from the second half of May, predictably when the confinement measures are relaxed.
Regarding prices, the roadmap announced by Xiaomi is as follows:
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 with 3 and 64 GB: 200 dollars
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 with 4 and 128 GB: $ 250
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro with 6 and 64 GB: 270 dollars
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro with 6 and 128 GB: $ 300
Taking into account Xiaomi's conversion factor, the price in euros is most likely the same as in dollars. Despite this, it is not ruled out that the company launches a temporary promotion that reduces the price of the four versions.
