Has the war for megapixels returned? Everything seems to indicate that it is so. A few years ago, manufacturers insisted on putting high-megapixel sensors in their mobile phones. It seemed that the more megapixels it had the better. Then the trend changed and other factors began to be taken into account. Now it seems that "the war for megapixels" returns. This year we have already seen many proposals with 48 megapixel sensors. However, soon we could already know the mobiles with a 64 megapixel camera. And, as is usual, Xiaomi could be one of the first to have devices with this capacity.
The Redmi Note 7 was one of the first phones to offer a 48 megapixel camera at a reasonable price. But not the only one, because this year it seems that this sensor has “become fashionable”. A trend that could change soon. And is that Samsung announced a few days ago that it has a new sensor for mobile phones of no less than 64 megapixels ready. This sensor, called ISOCELL Bright GW1, will most likely debut in the Korean manufacturer's A-range. However, as with other sensors, the logical thing is that Samsung decides to sell it to other manufacturers as well.
A Xiaomi mobile with a 64 MP camera could arrive sooner rather than later
If finally Samsung decides to "share" this sensor with other manufacturers, we are sure that Xiaomi will be one of the first to have it. In fact, a Weibo user has published that the Chinese manufacturer is already preparing a Redmi terminal with this sensor.
The first terminal to include this new Samsung sensor could be the A70S, according to rumors. To achieve this, Tetracell technology has been used, which groups four pixels into one, obtaining images of 16 megapixels when there is less light and 64 megapixels when the light is good.
With this technique larger images are obtained with much detail. If we think about it, having a high resolution image we could do without, for example, the telephoto lens. In a 64 megapixel image we should be able to zoom on a specific part without loss of quality.
At the moment they are just rumors, but the possibility of a Xiaomi Redmi mobile with a 64 megapixel camera reaching the market is very high. At least that is how it will be if Samsung markets its latest sensor, something quite common.
