Xiaomi would be working so that their mobiles can record video in 8K quality, a standard that will replace 4K in the not too distant future. The rumor has been known through the new beta version of the MIUI 11 customization layer, which hides a code within the camera app that reveals a new recording possibility: 7,680 × 4,320 pixels, or what is the same, 8K.
Not all the firm's mobiles would be ready for 8K. In fact, no model with a Snapdragon 855 processor could enjoy this quality. And it is that the technical characteristics for the chip support 4K and 60fps as the highest video recording quality. Unless Xiaomi has created an incredible compression algorithm, the most normal thing is that we will not be able to enjoy this video recording until the next generation of terminals powered by the successor to the Snapdragon 855+. In any case, the new Snapdragon 865 should be announced shortly, since it will be the new SoC of high-end mobiles that we will know at the beginning of 2020.
It must be remembered that Xiaomi would not be at the forefront in this 8K within the mobile sector. Devices like the Nubia Red Magic 3 or Asus ROG Phone 2 can already achieve this, although the maximum rate that has been obtained is 24 fps. The positive thing about the Asian firm is that it wants to surpass this mark to become the first company to achieve a 30 fps rate in this quality for a smartphone. Logically, we could record at an impressive quality, but also with some cons. Recording in 8K at 30fps would mean having to have a large amount of space, since each video of a few seconds would take up a lot of storage. To this should be added the energy consumption, which would directly affect the device's battery.
Despite this, the challenge is there and we do not know what the manufacturer will surprise us with in the future. Who knows if it will not launch a super mobile with a huge battery, a lot of space and the latest Qualcomm processor so that we can get the most out of 8K. As we say, this will not happen in a short time. The normal thing is that we have to wait until well into 2020 to meet the Xiaomi candidate who will offer us this recording possibility.
