The Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S7, and Galaxy A5 2017 are receiving the November security patch. At the moment, the update for the Note 9 is being carried out in the United States and Bulgaria, while that of the A5 (2017) and Galaxy S7 has begun in Canada and the United Kingdom. In any case, it is a matter of time before it is deployed to the rest of the countries where the devices are marketed. Normally, when the time comes you will receive a pop-up message advising you that the security update is now available. However, you can check it yourself from the Settings> Software update> Manual download section.
The update for Galaxy Note 9 comes with version number M1AJQ.N960USQS1ARJ9 and N960FXXS2ARK2. For the A5 (2017) and Galaxy S7, the new software version has version number A520WVVLU5CRJ3 and G930FXXU3ERJE, respectively. The November patch fixes eleven critical vulnerabilities in the Android operating system and eight found in Samsung's software. As usual, a number of lower risk vulnerabilities have also been fixed.
If you haven't received it yet, don't worry. In a matter of days or a few weeks, it is normal that you can already have it. It is very important that you install it once the notice appears or you see it available. Keep in mind that these patches are updated to protect Samsung devices as much as possible from the threats of Android, one of the most vulnerable systems today. Don't forget to follow the steps below before updating your Note 9, S7 or A5 2017.
- Charge the device's battery fully or, if possible, check that it is at 50 percent capacity. It is a good way to ensure that the terminal is not going to turn off when updating.
- Connect to a Wi-Fi network. Always make sure to do it with your own connection and not on open WiFis with little security.
- Make a backup of all your data. It is essential that you keep your most important files safe. When it comes to updating, the normal thing is that nothing happens, but it is always better to prevent given the delicate process that your computer will go through when updating.
