Rumors about a possible Facebook Phone or Facebook mobile continue. If a few weeks ago it was said that the company of the great Social Network was working with HTC again, now it has revealed information about its possible operating system. If from the beginning it was believed that Android could be chosen, now it has been known that Microsoft's Windows Phone could be another candidate.
That HTC is the company in charge of creating the first mobile for Facebook, is not confirmed. It is also not known for sure whether Mark Zuckerberg is really interested in being actively involved in the mobile phone industry. If so, Facebook could compete directly with Google. But, although from the beginning it was believed that the Facebook Phone could have Android installed, now a Business Insider source has hinted that Windows Phone would be another candidate to add to the list of suitors.
Apparently, it was thought that Facebook would make a move similar to the one Amazon made with its Kindle Fire - the first foray into the market for touch tablets. This is based on Google's Android, although with a customization that left out many of Google's services. But Windows Phone has emerged as one of the most viable options.
According to what has been learned - and if the rumor is true - Facebook could completely ignore Google, which is one of its main adversaries in the online field. On the other hand, Microsoft is also interested in this collaboration. And it is that if you add to the already known relationship with Nokia and its range of Nokia Lumia mobiles, with Facebook —a network that has 900 million users worldwide—, its mobile platform would have even more presence in the market.
On the other hand, the integration that Facebook has on Windows Phone is much better than on other platforms. If the possible agreement between the two companies goes ahead, this integration would go one step further. And we remember that Facebook would not be interested in creating a mobile again with direct access to the social network as has been seen in the HTC ChaChaCha or HTC Salsa, but it would be a mobile that was - as it happens in Google - an official mobile of the Zuckerberg company.
But beware, the relationship between Microsoft and Facebook would not be from now. In October 2007, the latter took 1.6% of the shares of the social network for 240 million dollars. In addition, recently, Microsoft was also in charge of being the first customer in advertising issues including on the logout page. More specifically, including a capture of the search engine Bing, a direct rival of Google.
Finally, Business Insider has contacted representatives of Facebook and Microsoft and both parties have made clear their refusal to speak to rumors. However, the source of the portal assures that the launch of the mobile is not imminent and that Facebook is still evaluating all the possibilities it has in the market.
