On December 16, we attended the official presentation of the Honor Magic in China. Known as Huawei's second brand, it hit the table to close the year and presented a terminal with a great design and with some very new features. A presentation that left us with a bittersweet taste, since, on the one hand, we saw a terminal with a very interesting design and functions, but on the other hand we were a bit cold when we learned about some of its technical characteristics. However, it seems that the Honor Magic will have a great future. The company put the first units of the terminal on sale in China after its presentation, units that, according to data from the company itself, they were sold practically immediately. Although Huawei has not given concrete figures, the data assures that the Honor Magic has sold faster than another of the most anticipated terminals, the Xiaomi Mi Mix.
Honor surprised all the specialized media a few days ago with a worldwide presentation of its new device. One of those smartphones that can put a company on everyone's lips. The Honor Magic offers an elegant design with curves on all four sides and with glass as the main material, both in the front and in the back. The frames are metal, which provides a touch of robustness and an even more premium look. This design comes topped with a display panel AMOLED 5.1 inches and resolution Quad HD 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. That is, the same technology that Samsung uses in its highest-end terminals.
In addition to its curves and the high resolution of the screen, the Honor Magic surprised everyone with two very interesting new functions. On the one hand, on the front we have a large oval button that hides the fingerprint reader. So far everything normal. But it is that this button also performs the functions of the "Back" button that almost all terminals usually include. To do this we just have to slide your finger from right to left over the button. Another novelty is the incorporation of an infrared sensor on the front. This sensor includes facial recognitionand allows you to unlock the terminal just by looking directly at the mobile screen. Also, if the terminal detects that we are not the ones looking at it, it does not show the notifications.
What left us a bit "cold" were the technical specifications of the device. And not because they are bad, far from it, but because we expected a similar innovation in sight with the design. The company, however, has opted for a familiar set, consisting of an eight-core Kirin 650 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. Something that has also let us down is that the Honor Magic arrives with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and not with Android 7.0, especially considering that the Huawei Mate 9 does incorporate it. Also, the dual camera chosen for the Honor Magicit is, on paper, inferior to that of the Honor 8. However, the latter will have to wait to verify it in a thorough test.
In short, a terminal featuring a design that has nothing to envy to the terminal's "top" of Android with a price of 500 euros in Europe. A terminal that seems that Chinese users have liked it a lot. We will have to wait to see how it works in our country.
