Honor India has just reported that due to 'limitations in terminal hardware and software' Honor 8 will not update to Android 8 Oreo. The phone of the Chinese company, which dates from July 2016, will not finally update to the current latest version of Android, which has the number and name '8 Oreo'. Therefore, holders of the Honor 8 will be left without features such as Picture in Picture (that is, being able to see, for example, a YouTube video in a separate window while we are doing other steps with other applications) or advanced notification management.. A decision that, without a doubt, will not sit well with those who, in their day, chose this model as a phone for daily use.
Generally, mobile manufacturers usually guarantee the client of their terminals a maximum update period of two years. The Honor 8 appeared in stores with the EMUI customization layer under Android 6 Marshmallow, so everything seemed to indicate that its latest version would be, precisely, the one that appeared in 2017 with the name of a filled cookie. Thus, in the month of December, the CEO of the company, George Zao, pointed out in an interview, as reported by the Phone Arena media, that his Honor 8 terminal would receive the update to Android 8 Oreo. A month later, the company would have changed its mind. Of course, we will have to wait for the official confirmation.
What is certain is that the Honor 8 will continue to receive security updates for a while. The reasons given by the company are somewhat strange, since a similar terminal in hardware and software such as the Nokia 2 will receive the update to Android 8 Oreo.
