The Galaxy Z Flip is the South Korean manufacturer's second bet in the market for phones with a folding screen. To solve the problems present when folding such a small chassis, the company has patented a system called Dual CAM.
What this system achieves is a progressive folding that is also compatible with different positions. This is the main difference from a common switch. While its mechanism only supports two positions (off and on), the dimmer built into the hinge of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip allows for almost millimeter control of the tilt in a tiny size.
Above this mechanism is a covering that hides the hinge of the phone, making it invisible to the human eye. This decision goes beyond the aesthetic convictions of the company. In fact, part of the functionality of the Dual CAM system focuses on preventing the introduction of dirt into the axes of rotation. It is at this point that Sweeper technology acts.
As its name suggests, this technology is responsible for "sweeping" dirt from the inside out. Its operation is very similar to that offered by sweeping fibers in vacuum cleaners; the brand even acknowledges having been inspired by this system. These fibers try to repel dust and dirt particles by sweeping everything that enters the hinge outwards. They don't clean alone, but almost.
With this curious solution, Samsung has achieved a minimum durability of 200,000 folds. This is not only due to the strength of the hinge itself, but also to the flexibility of the fibers inserted into the filter of the sweeping system.
