The new Samsung Galaxy S5 from the South Korean company Samsung is giving a lot to talk about in recent weeks. Although there are still a few months left for the presentation of the Galaxy S5, for now it seems that one of the most widespread rumors regarding this terminal has been denied: the iris scanner. Apparently the technology of a scanner capable of identifying the user from their iris is still too green, so the South Korean Samsung will probably equip its new Galaxy S5 only with a fingerprint scanner as other companies such as Apple with its iPhone 5S.
The iris scanner was precisely one of the most striking novelties of the next Samsung flagship. In theory it was going to be a scanner that would allow the phone to be unlocked with a simple glance of the user towards the camera, which would gain both in terms of security and comfort. The only problem is that it is a technology that has not yet been implemented in any current telephone since it requires millimeter precision in each of the scanner components to guarantee its correct operation.
But this is not the only reason for Samsung's decision not to include the iris scanner in its Galaxy S5, as the Korean newspaper Korea Herald has announced. In order for iris scanner technology to be included in a phone, an additional camera specifically designed for this purpose must be installed. And that entails completely changing the design of the terminal, in addition to the fact that its size would most likely be affected by this additional camera as well.
In summary, the South Korean Samsung would not be particularly interested in making all these changes, being able to simply include a fingerprint scanner, which does not pose too many problems when it comes to making small tweaks in the design of the terminal. The fingerprint scanner would also serve to unlock the phone simply by placing the finger on a digital scanner, which would increase the security of the terminal since only the authorized user could access its content.
Regarding the other specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S5 that have been known in recent weeks, to the apparently this new flagship will be presented to society with a screen of 5.25 inches with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. In principle, there would be two versions of the Galaxy S5 on the market: a version with a metal casing that would cost 800 euros and another version with a plastic casing that would cost 650 euros. The most expensive version would incorporate an eight-core Exynos 6 processor, while the plastic version would come with a Snapdragon 805 processor.. In both cases we would find a camera of 16 megapixels and the latest version of the operating system Android, Android 4.4 KitKat.
