Having a mobile compatible with 5G connectivity right now means having to scratch your wallet a little more than necessary. The British operator Vodafone is the one who offers, today, terminals compatible with this technology. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G, being the cheapest on the list, can be purchased at Vodafone at a price of 720 euros. If we look at higher-end options, we find devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G at 1,080 euros or the Huawei Mate 20X 5G for 900 euros. More economical? At the moment, they do not exist. But they won't be long in coming.
Low-end phones with 5G in 2020
And they will do it hand in hand with the Chinese brand Huawei thanks to the processors of the Mediatek brand, associated with mid-range and input terminals. This movement, in addition to making 5G connectivity available to the catalog of affordable terminals, represents a new movement in response to the Trump government's blockade in relation to trade agreements with US companies. Qualcomm, developer of Snapdragon, is a North American company, not Mediatek, which is China. A new step in the possible emancipation of Huawei and US companies, having already ready its new operating system called Harmony OS.
According to information collected in media such as Gizchina, MediaTek is engaged in the production of processors compatible with 5G and would also already have clients as powerful as mobile manufacturers OPPO and Vivo, best sellers in the Asian country. It will be from next year when Mediatek will have the first 5G-compatible processors ready to deliver them to Huawei and their destination will be, mainly, entry-level mobiles. The order of processors by Huawei in the first quarter of 2020 could reach 12 thousand units. The code name for this 5G compatible processor is MT6885.
This may mean that during 2020 we can finally see how being able to obtain a 5G-compatible mobile is much more affordable than now, promoting the development of this technology and democratizing its use.
