Differences and similarities between the iphone x and the galaxy note 8
Table of contents:
Apple and Samsung will conclude this 2017 with two top-of-the-range terminals that are giving a lot to talk about. We are talking about the iPhone X and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The two devices are very different from each other, but we cannot deny that they coincide in some things. For example, both have a large screen, dual cameras and a battery with fast and wireless charging. Logically these are two opposite brands and it is something that we will see in the operating system, technologies and design.
However, Apple and Samsung have done their homework very well and with their new high-end ranges they show us where telephony is moving towards: increasingly stylish and spectacular screens, a powerful photographic section and better performance. Taking this into account, these are the differences and similarities between the iPhone X and the Galaxy Note 8.

1. Design and display
At first glance we find two very different phones, although with a very well worked design in both cases. Yes, really the iPhone X and the Note 8 are very different in terms of design, although they both coincide in "dressing" good quality materials, in which elegance prevails above anything else. To give you an idea, in case you haven't seen it up close yet, the iPhone X is entirely made of glass, with aluminum frames with a glossy finish that make it stand out from other models of the company. We are not lying if we say that the iPhone X is currently one of the most beautiful phones from Apple. However, it still shows a continuous line: flat back with slightly curved corners.
Its rear has also changed and is, in this case, quite different from the Note 8. Apple has placed the camera this time in a vertical position instead of horizontal. The objective with this is that the images gain in depth. With respect to its rival, it is true that the iPhone X has a cleaner rear thanks to this detail. Again the apple logo continues to star in the central part.
If we consider the dimensions, the iPhone X and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 are also quite different. The first is thinner and lighter. The iPhone X measures exactly 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7mm and weighs 174 grams. The Note 8 measures 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6 millimeters and has a weight of 195 grams. Samsung has taken great care of aesthetics and it is true that its new phablet is a phone that visually draws a lot of attention, just like its rival. The materials used have been the glass in the front (with almost no presence of frames) and the back, like those of its competitor, and with slightly rounded edges to facilitate the subjection.
And, one of the details that brings these two devices closer in terms of design is the lack of the physical home button. An element that is no longer present to give all the prominence to the screen. In fact, this year both Apple and Samsung have stretched it enormously. The iPhone X debuts a 5.8-inch OLED panel Super Retina HD of 2,436 x 1,125 pixels. For its part, the Note 8 is somewhat larger. This model has a 6.3-inch with a QHD + resolution (2,960 x 1,440) (521ppi).
At this point, one of the great differences between the two terminals must be mentioned: The S Pen. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has a stylus that will allow you to access functions or write emails more quickly. The iPhone X lacks this element. This S Pen is capable of detecting over 4,000 pressure points and features a 0.7mm thick tip. Located in the upper right corner of the terminal, one of its main claims is that it allows you to draw GIF animations to send through social networks or WhatsApp.
Power and memory
Both the iPhone X and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 are two very powerful and high-performance phones, capable of working without problems with heavy apps or several processes at the same time. Despite this, in this section Samsung is still well ahead of Apple. The Note 8 is powered by an 8-core Exynos processor (4 at 2.3 GHz and 4 at 1.7 GHz), accompanied by 6 GB of RAM. For its part, the iPhone X houses a six-core A11 Bionic chip with a 3 GB RAM memory. The difference is important, although it will not be noticed in common tasks or applications such as WhatsApp or Instagram.
The internal storage capacity is similar. The iPhone X and Note 8 coincide in having a 64 GB version. However, the Apple phablet also offers a model with 256 GB of internal space. In any case, the capacity of the Note 8 can be expanded by using microSD-type cards. The iPhone X cannot be expanded. Only through iCloud or another cloud storage service.
Camera
The cameras of these two models are dual. In that they are alike. Of course, there is a big difference: the iPhone X is in a vertical position and the Galaxy Note 8 in horizontal. Otherwise, the two are very similar. The dual sensor of the iPhone X has a resolution of 12 megapixels, aperture of f / 1.8 + f / 1.4, optical image stabilization, Flash and the ability to record video in 4K. The Note 8 has the same resolution, but in its case with an aperture f / 1.7 for the wide angle and f / 2.4 for the telephoto lens, as well as Flash, image stabilization and Dual Pixel technology. In this way, we will get sharper and clearer images.
On the front we see that the iPhone X has a 7 megapixel sensor with f / 2.2 aperture. It is somewhat more restrained than its rival, which has an 8-megapixel camera with f / 1.7 aperture and autofocus. They both lack LED Flash.
Operating system
Another of the big differences is found in the operating system. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes standard with Android 7.7.1, although it will be able to update to Android 8 very soon. Nougat is a version that includes numerous improvements and functionalities. We can highlight among them a more minimalist notification system and the multi-window function, which allows you to use two applications at the same time from the same window. The iPhone X is governed by iOS 11, a version that has improved a lot over iOS 10. It is becoming cleaner, more fluid and comfortable for the user. iOS 11 has changed notably in some sections, such as the control center or messages. The Siri assistant now also comes with a new, more natural voice and with the possibility of translating simultaneously in several languages.
Drums
The iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 arrive this year with fast and wireless charging. Apple has wanted to catch up with its rivals and has surprised in this section. This is one of the great similarities between the two phones, but the Note 8's battery capacity is superior. Although Apple has not confirmed data on the amperage, it is said that it does not exceed 3,000 mAh. That of the Note 8 is 3,300 mAh, which is not bad at all and it will allow us to enjoy it for a whole day.
Price
Finally, the price could be defined as a section more similar than different. And is that, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 costs 1,010 euros in the only 64 GB model. The version of the iPhone X with the same capacity is slightly higher, 1,159 euros. This is a very small difference, although it is true that the Apple terminal is a bit more expensive. The two teams can also be purchased through operators with an installment payment. In some cases the savings are considerable.
